This review is for Cartronics in Madison, Tennessee Not intoxalock they are wonderful 5 stars all the way!!!! Anyway, first of all Cartronics customer service was absolutely terrible. The guy that dealt with me was very rude very very obnoxious and acted annoyed every time I had a question or try to find out anything about what was going on with my car because it Already was the next day whenever my car should’ve been ready the day before so I’m sorry, but I don’t give them a good rating at all. Everybody else I dealt with was awesome but the installation process and the guy that handled my stuff was absolutely horrible.

I am updating this review based on the excellent response I received from their Social Media Specialist, Patricia. She reviewed my points, agreed with most all of them and I am being reimbursed for all of my extra, out of pocket expenses. I offered her suggestions on how to improve the standard customer service and unlocking the compliance department to be more interactive with its customers. I am satisfied with the response and hope they communicate my experience to their management team for continuous improvement.
Original: The inability to speak with the state compliance department caused me extra time, and extra costs. Intoxalock did not request a review and compliance request in a timely fashion because the state said i wasn't eligible until May 27th. This was because Intoxalock did not send any of my reports from my install date of Dec 2023 thru May 2024. My eligible date of removal was March 7 but that didn't occur until May 27th. It took dozens of phone calls, HOURS of being on hold, and another 20-30 emails and finally I was able to get the device removed working directly with the State. The State had to go ask for the reports they were missing and had to go BEG the intoxalock compliance department to issue the request for compliance review. This all resulted in 3 extra lease payments, 3 extra calibrations as well as a device reset that should not have happened as the device should have been removed. This all resulted in being over charged a total sum of $408.81. I have attached the dates and costs in a screen shot. Allowing 1 week common sense timing to have the device scheduled for removal AFTER my 365 requirement. I would like to know how dispute these extra costs and request a refund. My overall impression is that intoxalock does not care so long as they are collecting money. There are dozens of notations on my account documenting all of my calls and the customer service people - for the most part - did their best = but no communication with the compliance department did not allow this to happen timely and correctly. Not to mention that when i need to have a device reset the cust. serv. person basically accused me of device tampering - AFTER i had already met my 365 day requirements. HORRIBLE experience. One star is too high of a rating.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner. What should I do if my ignition interlock device locks me out?
If your ignition interlock device locks you out, it’s usually due to missed tests, failed tests, or state-specific requirements.
