Staff have changed over the years. The guy I just went in and asked to rent a fan remover wrench. And had no idea what I was talking about brought me the wrong tool. So I went to AutoZone and they immediately gave me the tool I asked for.

I went to buy a battery for my husband’s car from Advance Auto in Elizabethton on Wednesday (6/3/25). The employee was outside talking to someone in their car when I pulled up, he did follow me inside the store and asked how he could help me. I told him the make and model of the car I needed the battery for, which was listed as $114 online. The salesperson brought out a battery and told me that the total was $239 and some change. I explained that it was only $114 online and couldn’t afford that price. He said that the battery I was referring to was a cheap battery and wouldn’t last 6 months (it was literally the SAME battery). He said, “hang on and I’ll see what I can do.” He brought it down to $203 and some change. He wouldn’t consider selling me a cheaper battery. I told him that I didn’t get paid until the next day and I’d be back. I went to Walmart and bought the same battery that Advance Auto asked $239, $203, and $114 online for $72! The salesperson did nothing but discourage me from buying any cheaper battery. By the way, the salesperson followed me outside after I said I’d be back after getting paid and went back to talking to the same dude in the car next to me, just like he was when I pulled in. I will NEVER buy anything from any Advance Auto store ever! Please don’t overpay for their overpriced parts and RUDE service!

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?
Expand FAQ item
Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
