This has been, without exaggeration, the worst experience I’ve ever had with a company.
I had to get my car towed to the service center FOUR separate times.
Three times were due to a dead battery, caused by faulty equipment and excessive battery drain from the interlock device.
One time was due to an equipment malfunction.
Each tow cost $225, and despite repeatedly being told I would be reimbursed, I never received full reimbursement. Instead, they deposited smaller, random amounts into my account that did not come close to covering the actual tow costs. On top of that, I was forced to buy TWO brand-new batteries out of pocket because their equipment kept killing them. None of this was properly reimbursed.
At one point, I was forced to leave my car at the service center because they failed to send me replacement equipment. Another time, they didn’t even inform me that I needed new equipment at all, which caused me to miss work. Their lack of communication and accountability directly impacted my job and finances.
I was only required to have this interlock device for the duration of my probation. I supplied official paperwork and proof showing that I was no longer on probation. Despite this, for over a month, they refused to remove the device from my vehicle.
They claimed it was “against state law” for them to remove it, which is completely false. Under Tennessee Code Annotated § 55-10-425, once the legal requirement is satisfied, an ignition interlock device may be removed. Additionally, the installation paperwork I signed explicitly states that I have the right to have the device removed once my obligation is complete. Despite this, they continued to refuse removal and provided conflicting and misleading information.
Between:
repeated breakdowns
unnecessary towing
out-of-pocket battery replacements
missed work
partial reimbursements
and being held hostage to equipment I was no longer legally required to have
this company has shown complete disregard for its customers.
If you value your time, money, vehicle, or peace of mind, stay far away. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

Installing an ignition interlock device typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on your vehicle type. Certified technicians ensure the device is properly installed and provide you with training on how to use it. Contact Intoxalock for an appointment and an accurate time estimate for your installation.
What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner. However, the vehicle owner must provide consent for the installation. Intoxalock works with you and the owner to ensure compliance with state regulations and the successful setup of the device.
What should I do if my ignition interlock device locks me out?
