Avoid the Service Department at All Costs If I could give zero stars, I would — specifically for the service department at Cooper Chevrolet in Walterboro, SC. While traveling on vacation we experienced a break down on the road. This left a family, including our pets stranded, stressed and vulnerable. There was a moment of opportunity for this dealership to be the hero’s however they saw an opportunity to take advantage of that situation rather than help. There was no genuine attempt to diagnose or inspect the vehicle. No meaningful troubleshooting. No proper inspection. No diagnostic process whatsoever. Instead, they immediately jumped to a worst-case scenario, presenting an outrageously inflated estimate for repairs — all without even determining what was actually wrong. It was clear this wasn’t about fixing a problem; it was about padding a bill and hoping a stranded family wouldn’t question it. Any reputable service department knows that diagnostics come before estimates. Cooper Chevrolet skipped that step entirely and went straight to fear-based upselling. That is not professionalism — that is predatory. We had no choice but to leave the vehicle there and later had it transported home. Once a different shop was able to properly inspect the vehicle, we determined that the catastrophic repairs they claimed were “necessary” were never needed at all. The repairs were significantly less than we were originally quoted. If you choose to visit Cooper Chevrolet Service Dept in Walterboro, especially if you’re from out of town or in a tough spot, I recommend a second opinion before agreeing to let them do anything to your vehicle. This experience was unprofessional and in no way could possibly meet the expected GM service protocols.

If you value honest, integrity, professionalism, your money, or your time — do not take your vehicle to this dealership’s service department. This was hands-down one of the most dishonest, incompetent service experiences I’ve ever had, and it permanently destroyed my trust in this dealership. My 2011 Silverado 2500 broke down just south of this location while I was driving my family home to Florida from North Carolina. We were on a family vacation with our young daughters, taking them to learn how to ski. When the truck failed, I made the conscious decision to tow it to a Chevrolet dealership because I’ve been a loyal Chevy customer my entire life and expected professional and honest service. That was my first mistake. After towing the truck all the way from Hendersonville, SC, this service department told me my transmission had failed and quoted me $13,000 for parts and labor. Thirteen. Thousand. Dollars. Anyone with even basic mechanical knowledge knows that number is absurd. A remanufactured transmission does not cost anywhere near that—not even close. The quote felt wrong, so instead of being pressured into an outrageous repair while stranded on a family trip, I had the truck transported back to Florida for a second opinion. Here’s where this goes from bad to unforgivable. The second shop confirmed there was nothing wrong with the transmission at all. Even worse, they discovered the transmission pan had never been removed, meaning this dealership didn’t even perform the most basic step required to diagnose a transmission failure. In other words, the $13,000 diagnosis was completely fabricated. Let that sink in. Had I trusted this dealership, I would have paid $13,000 for a repair that wouldn’t have fixed anything—because the problem was never the transmission to begin with. The problem was the transfer case. Trying to extract five figures from a stranded family without even properly diagnosing the problem is disgraceful and absolutely disgusring. A breakdown that should have been a sub-$2,000 repair was turned into an attempted financial ambush. I cannot stress this enough: do not use this service department. If they are willing to make up diagnoses and throw out obscene repair quotes without even performing basic inspections, nothing you’re told here can be trusted. I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to upsell windshield washer fluid as a critical engine repair. This experience was an embarrassment to the Chevrolet name and a warning to anyone considering this dealership: go literally anywhere else.

Excellent car buying experience! I have purchased a lot of vehicles over my life and I must say this transaction has been by far the least painful. I worked with Cooper and he was very easy to work with. Actually everyone from sales to finance manager were very friendly and straight forward, no back and forth. Great place to purchase a vehicle. They’ll treat you right!
