Buyer Beware: Sold a Ram 4500 Missing Its Standard 52-Gallon Fuel Tank
I purchased a brand new Ram 4500 from this dealership and five weeks after taking delivery, I discovered the truck was missing its standard 52-gallon rear-mounted fuel tank. The only tank on the vehicle is the optional 22-gallon midship tank — an add-on that Ram sells as a supplemental upgrade, not a replacement for the standard tank.
To be clear about what Ram's own published specifications state: every Ram 4500 Chassis Cab comes standard with a 52-gallon rear-mounted fuel tank. The 22-gallon midship tank is an available option that can be added alongside the standard tank to bring total capacity to 74 gallons. Ram does not manufacture or sell the 4500 with a 22-gallon tank as the sole fuel source. This is documented in Stellantis' own buyer's guides and on ramtrucks.com.
When I raised this issue with the dealership, the owner told me that the 22-gallon midship tank was installed "instead of" the standard 52-gallon tank — as if this were some kind of upgrade or equivalent swap. That directly contradicts the manufacturer's published specifications. A 22-gallon tank is not a substitute for a 52-gallon tank. It is a 30-gallon reduction in fuel capacity from what the vehicle is supposed to come with, which significantly limits the truck's operating range and undermines the reason a commercial-grade chassis cab is purchased in the first place.
The dealership has refused to resolve the issue despite being presented with the facts.
I have since verified the vehicle's factory build sheet and original window sticker through Ram's own VIN lookup tools, and I am in the process of escalating this matter to Ram Corporate / Stellantis, the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs, and NHTSA.
If you are considering purchasing a vehicle here, I strongly encourage you to independently verify the factory build sheet and window sticker for any vehicle before signing — and physically inspect that every piece of standard equipment listed is actually present on the truck. Do not rely solely on what you are told at the point of sale.
Tyler, Sam, and Kevin all deserve recognition for making the most efficient truck-buying experience. I have bought two vehicles from Lake Keowee and both of them have only been serviced there as well. The service team has always gone above and beyond to make sure my vehicle stays in pristine condition. I especially want to shout out Gary and Luke. They have always been so welcoming and kind that I could not imagine buying and most importantly servicing my vehicle anywhere else! Highly recommend Lake Keowee Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep for all your vehicle needs!!
Jason Ensley did a fantastic job coordinating everything. He made scheduling easy and had my Jeep taken in right on time, which I really appreciate with a busy schedule. He also walked me through the inspection results in a clear, straightforward way, pointing out that the cabin air filter, engine air filter, 50,000-mile coolant flush, and differential fluid service were due.
I usually handle the filters myself, but since they already had everything apart and ready, it made sense to go ahead and let them take care of it. No pressure, just good communication.
They honored my 10% discount coupon without any hassle, and to top it off, they even washed my Jeep and got all the pollen off. That extra touch really stood out.
Jason is a true asset to the service team. Great service, great communication, and a smooth overall experience. Keep up the good work, guys!

Extremely shady and frustrating experience with the service department.
I picked up a vehicle on behalf of someone and was told additional work had been approved past what should have been covered by warranty, so I was required to pay a balance to get the vehicle released. I questioned it at the time, but was reassured multiple times that everything had been authorized.
That turned out not to be true. The work was never approved. In fact, it was explicitly denied.
When we tried to get answers, the situation only got worse. The service department gave inconsistent explanations, avoided calls, and ultimately stopped responding altogether. There is a recorded call tied to the supposed "approval," yet they have refused to review it or provide any proof of what they are claiming.
At best, this is extremely poor communication and mismanagement. At worst, it feels intentionally misleading. It genuinely feels like they took advantage of the situation knowing the owner of the vehicle wasn't there in person and continue to take advantage.
Between the lack of transparency and communication, refusal to take accountability, and the way this was handled from start to finish, I would not trust this dealership with service work or recommend them to anyone. In fact, I would highly recommend that you stay far, far away.
Updating my previous review after the dealership’s response because their response needs to be addressed:
The reply from the owner is not only dismissive, but factually incorrect. It appears they may be confusing my situation with another customer entirely, which is honestly concerning in itself.
To be very clear:
• There were no other dealerships involved in this situation.
• There was no “rush” or expedited service—we were never even notified the vehicle was ready and had to call ourselves for an update.
• The core issue was unauthorized or misrepresented work and a complete lack of communication, not the speed of service.
Instead of taking accountability or even attempting to understand the situation, their response deflects with incorrect assumptions and a tone that is, frankly, unprofessional.
At this point, it’s not just about the original experience, it’s about how they choose to handle customer concerns afterward. If this is how issues are addressed publicly, I would be very cautious trusting them behind the scenes.
Due to the seriousness of how this was handled, this dealership has also been reported to the Better Business Bureau, as the way they conduct business and communicate with customers is frankly appalling.
I stand by my original review. This was a frustrating and disappointing experience from start to finish, and I would not recommend this dealership—especially their service department—to anyone.
