I managed to get it jumped and drove over in the rain, only to be told by the employee behind the counter when I said I needed a new battery, quote, “Not much we can do about it in the rain, now can we?” Oh, I don’t know, maybe SELL me a battery? Pretend you work at an auto parts store? The guy never even offered to ring up the product I asked for, because clearly, as a woman, I couldn’t possibly be capable of carrying it out and installing it myself. Spoiler alert: I absolutely can. At the very least, staff should OFFER to sell the part when a customer requests it. Didn't even offer an "I'm sorry, we can't install in the rain but if you'd like to purchase one..." He offered ZERO solutions as he SAT there staring at me like I was burdening him with my presence after his condescending one-liner. Not the kind of service anyone expects when walking into an auto parts store. Thankfully, the nicer folks at Auto Zone were MUCH more helpful and got me fixed right up. I'll be taking my business there from now on.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward.
