I wish I could give 0 stars. My family and I were traveling to FL for Thanksgiving on a road trip from CLT, NC. We have a 9 year old little boy. Four hours into our trip, our minivan electrical system started acting weird. Needed a jump once after pumping gas then once after stalling on the high way.... We urgently found the closest Advanced Auto Parts looking for help replacing the battery. We arrived at this location 15 minutes before closing. Here are our grievances:
1) No help was offered. We were told that they couldn't come out to the vehicle to replace a battery after dark because the parking lot was "not well lit." There were at least 2-3 lights in the lot. So, they only sold us a battery and had us buy the tools to replace our battery instead of lending us the tools. We were left stranded in the lot until an AAA guy came to help.
2) Old recycled battery not compensated. Even though the workers, including the manager, refused to help us, they did communicate that if we brought back the old battery we were replacing, they would compensate us for recycling it. My husband was told this twice. When we were driving home from FL, we stopped again (much earlier before closing this time) at the same store to return the old battery for a recycling compensation. The same workers were there, how unfortunate. Of course, even though the very same workers had communicated just a few days earlier we could return the battery for compensation, the same workers denied us compensation and took the battery.
3) Denied access to bathroom. On our return trip home, my 9 year old son entered the store requesting he needed to use the bathroom while the workers were talking to my husband. My husband suggested he didn't think there were public restrooms (although I've been directed to the employee restroom in the past at Advanced shops). Both of the workers standing there just looked at my husband when he turned to them and made no offer for my son, who then started crying because of his urgent need.
The staff here demonstrated an utter lack of empathy. They did not go out of their way for their customers, and, in fact, denied us the compensation they had previously promised us.
We had a terrible experience. Please DO NOT use this Advanced Auto Parts. Save yourselves the energy.

Don't waste your money on a tire inflator here. Spent $80 and went through three units in just two days — and yes, I had every receipt. One didn’t work at all, another started smoking and smelled like it was about to catch fire.
they refused to let us return it. Why should I be penalized when their product doesn’t even work? The store passed us off to corporate, corporate passed us back, and no one took responsibility. Staff offered nothing but store credit as if I’d want to spend another dime here.
This company clearly doesn’t stand behind what they sell. If you enjoy frustration and wasting your hard earned money, shop here.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?
Expand FAQ item
Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
