    There is just an insane level of baffoonery going on at this location. We reserved a premium SUV for a noon pick up. At the end of our lovely interaction, we not only had to wait over an hour for a lesser level car, but I was made to sit through the most disrespectful tirade I have ever had by a low-level employee in my life. Complaining about how he had to wake up early to be there, love that for you but exactly 0% my problem. We got a 100$ discount on the lowest rate possible (so we were told, God knows lmao) for the lesser car we had to take and the absolutely stellar service we received. Never again National, truly what the hell was this lmfao. A joke.

    The Downtown Montreal location rented me a car in late December with SUMMER TIRES. No snowflake logo on the tire, no traction, it is literally illegal to drive in December in Quebec without the snowflake logo on the tires. Our car got stuck trying to climb a minor hill in the Eastern Townships that all other cars could easily climb. Roadside assistance could not provide help because "there was no damage" to the car or tire, so I had to call AAA and get towed and pay for the longer towing to our AirBnb in another town. The tow truck company mentioned that he was considering calling the police to get the car impounded given how unsafe this was (and plain illegal). We were lucky we didn't have a worse incident, this was pure negligence and recklessness from the Downtown montreal crew to rent a car in December without appropriate tires. I spent most of the holidays worried about having to drive the car back to Montreal as your roadside assistance could apparently not do anything to help us. That was also incredibly reckless of them but they were following the policy. Absolutely negligent. I hope someone tell the Montreal location that they need to do much better, and make sure they follow the laws and don't endanger renters? I have been an Emerald member for a long time and I don't think I can trust you guys anymore.

    My guy calls me 12 hours before I'm set to pick up the vehicle to tell me that he doesn't have anything available and can't help me. There's a Seinfeld episode about this! You know how to take the reservation, but the holding of the reservation is really the most important part!

    RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND WON’T HONOR YOUR RESERVATION IF YOU ARRIVE LATE I reserved a car for 4:30 p.m. to visit family over the holiday weekend. Due to traffic, I arrived at 5:47 p.m. I tried to call the rental office to inform them of my delay but I was placed on automatic hold multiple times for over 20 minutes only to be disconnected. I also called the National 1800 number, but they couldn’t transfer me to the rental office. They assured me my reservation was fine as long as I arrived before closing. When I arrived, out of breath and rain-soaked after running there from the metro, the agent was rude and unprofessional. He told me the car I reserved was gone. I asked if I could rent a different car, but he said there were no more cars, despite seeing multiple cars parked next to the office, including a Kia of the same make I reserved. He claimed he didn’t hear the phone ring when I called earlier and refused to give me his or the branch manager’s name. He simply did not want to rent a car close to closing time. This callous service nearly ruined my family trip. I had to find another rental last minute and drive overnight to my destination. I’m a National Emerald Member and I’ve rented from National many times in multiple countries and have never encountered such rude customer service. I won’t set foot in this specific National branch again. Save your money and time and rent from a place that treats customers with respect.
