I thought the alternator was bad so I stopped at Advanced Auto Parts to have the alternator checked as they do this for free. Gerry, the store manager, came out to check for me. My battery cable ended up being loose and he went to the back and got some tools and tightened it up for me so I could get back on the road. So grateful for his kindness. I would give him 100 stars if I could.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle.
