My mom got her interlock device which looks like it's from 1970. My girlfriend drives her home from this place and they stall 3 minutes in. She blows and fail. My girlfriend blows and fails (neither obviously drinking). They keep trying maybe 20 minutes and finally it passes. About ten minutes later, same exact occurrence. She's now locked out for 4 days the device says. Damien at the actual place was very ignorant to my wife, we had to wait 2 days! Then he went on lunch when they got there so they had to wait longer. This is a scam from the state to take people's money. Not to mention it's costs HUNDREDS to install and false positives will cost you more. I would give this place and the city negative ten for this disaster.

Today I jumped in my truck, had to blow to get it started, all good. On my very first retest which is approximately five minutes after the first test. I failed the test and after waiting the 3 minutes, retesting, I passed. When I go to turn off the truck I’m in a lockout again! This is the 2nd time this has happened! Seems something happens atleast 2 times a month that has nothing to do with me violating and still get violated! Then I suibmit the troubles in writing to only be ignored! Six submissions in two months and not one response! The state is just stealing money from people!

At first, Phil was very helpful and responsive in getting me started with the process. After installation, I had a few more questions and Phil was nowhere to be found. Had to speak to customer service rep who was extremely difficult to understand. Very disappointed that this had occured. I feel like once they sign you up and get your money, you are on your own.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
