My experience with this interlock device has been awful. Between $350–$500 monthly charges and frequent random lockouts, it’s not worth the stress. Make sure to read reviews and compare other companies before choosing one.”

Update: Intoxalock did the right thing by releasing the compliance report to PennDOT, and the device has now been removed. I would like to thank Daniel, the Social Media Specialist, for facilitating this process. Over the course of twelve months, the total cost of having this device in my car was $3,193.01. This amount includes the installation fee, removal fee, battery replacements to support the device, lockout fees when the battery died, and one towing fee for the vehicle. If you read other reviews, you will see that these fees are quite common. It was expensive! I have had this device installed in my vehicle for 12 months without any violations. However, when it was time for Intoxalock to conduct a compliance check to send to the DMV for the device's removal, I received an email stating that I failed the compliance check due to a missed restart two days before the data was pulled. Again, I have not had any violations! I explained that the missed random retest likely occurred after I jump-started my car. The battery died because I hadn’t used the car for several days. I connected the battery to a charger, started the car, and then unhooked the charger. After that, I went back inside my house to grab something. At no point was I driving the car during this time, and the installed camera can easily confirm this. It seems that this company will do anything to extract more money from customers.

Agents are very willing to handle all questions and concerns. If they are not sure of something they will check with other staff to insure the correct information is given.

I was charged $540 for the install. The website says installs are supposed to be between $75 to $150. The lady I paid, said it's because it's a "newer vehicle". My car is 7 years old. The installer also caused one of the displays in my car, to no longer work. Just to be clear, the install cost, is on top of the $110 I have to pay for the next 12 months. I also get that there's nothing good about a DUI, but my DUI was 9 years ago, and I got it for driving in an empty parking lot, for about 30 seconds. I didn't drive on the road that night. It's an extremely predatory racket that Pennsylvania and Intoxalock has going on. Its a major part of the reason, that it took me so long to go through with getting my license back. I went to Auto First in Mechanicsburg PA. Maybe they're the reason that I got price gouged, but I'm beyond angry about this. I also don't recommend going to Auto First for a car, because the salesman told me perks, that I didn't get. For example, he said I would get a warranty, but I didn't get one, and he said they would detail the car, but they didn't. Be careful because there's a lot of greedy predators, that have no soul, out here taking advantage of us.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle.
