- BNBrad NelsonJan 29, 20261.0I came into the store this evening and the guy behind the counter asked what I needed, and I said that my wife's car needed a new battery. Instantly, the guy said "Well, I'm not putting it in!" I was taken off guard, and asked why not? He replied, "I'm here on my own and it's policy that I can't leave the store." I actually had no problem with this, but his tone with both statements were exasperated and dismissive. Very unprofessional, and it could have been handled much better. How about: "I can get you a battery, but I'm sorry but I can't install it since I am here alone." That would have been a totally different story. I went down the street to AutoZone, and they were extremely courteous from the moment I walked in. Advanced Auto Parts lost my business.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
