Review template for Car Clinic and Intoxalock Subject: Nightmare service at Car Clinic with faulty Intoxalock device I am writing to warn others about the terrible service I received from both Car Clinic and Intoxalock. The combination of the faulty equipment and incompetent service has created a nightmare scenario that is both frustrating and expensive. Intoxalock: Unreliable and costly devices My problems began with the Intoxalock device itself, which is unreliable and seems designed to cause violations. I received multiple violations for no reason, including: False positives: The device failed me even though I had not consumed any alcohol, costing me additional money in fees. Lockouts for no reason: My car was locked out randomly, forcing me to pay for an emergency calibration or a tow, even when I followed all instructions. Device failure: The unit has a history of malfunctioning, draining my car battery, and causing the vehicle to become inoperable. Car Clinic: Poor installation and lack of support The terrible experience with the device was compounded by the service at Car Clinic. They: Provided a poor installation that damaged my vehicle's interior. Failed to properly diagnose and fix the device's issues, leaving me stranded and with an unreliable system. Did not provide the necessary support to resolve my problems when the device malfunctioned. Conclusion: A predatory system The complete failure of both companies to provide a working product and adequate customer support is inexcusable. The process feels predatory, with Intoxalock's flawed technology and the service center's lack of accountability trapping customers in a cycle of false violations and expensive fees. If you have a choice, I strongly recommend avoiding both Intoxalock and Car Clinic.

I had my car at 212 AutoWorks recently for Inspection/Emissions and an Intoxalock install. Not only did the guys get it done quickly and professionally but their price also beat many others. The guy there helped me understand my device before I left and took the time to do so. Overall I would suggest 212 AutoWorks to anyone needing anything car related done. 212 AutoWorks A++

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
