Tuns of problems dealing with this.nothing was explained to me upon picking my vehicle up. They got paperwork wrong. I explained the discrepancies and nothing was resolved. I wanted to sell my car rather then deal with this and they told me that wasn't an option that i had to have this device installed. I also work out of state and don't have my drivers license back yet but got the device installed because the paperwork i got said to have it installed before the deadline of my suspension. Now i find out after having the device installed that this has to stay in continuous operation. Im not even in the same state of my vehicle. I tried to explain to intoxalock and their response was to have a member of my family go out and blow in the device. I don't see how this is legal. I have t even had a drink in over two years but i still have to have this device. I had therapy and they didn’t recommend further treatment. How can they charge me when i’m not capable of being there due to having to go back to work. Ive tried to talk to someone with this company and there has been no resolve what so ever or any corrections to their discrepancies.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner. However, the vehicle owner must provide consent for the installation. Intoxalock works with you and the owner to ensure compliance with state regulations and the successful setup of the device.
What should I do if my ignition interlock device locks me out?
If your ignition interlock device locks you out, it’s usually due to missed tests, failed tests, or state-specific requirements.
