If you take your car here, be prepared for it to never run correctly again. Warning: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO A-Z auto.
I am a layman, but even I noticed in the tenth hour of a two hour install that something didn’t look correct. They were scraping wires from old parts lying in the corners of their shop. Sure enough, just days later their wiring blew a fuel pump. I finally took it to another Intoxilock garage and they confirmed that the gauge of wire was substandard and, maybe worse, they cut wires they shouldn’t have and spliced wires incorrectly. I am now $1000’s into repairs and with only vague hope that either AtoZ or Intoxilock will ever make good on it. Oh, and I am paying for a service that I cannot use, leaving me unable to drive for more than two weeks now.
Again…. DO NOT use A to Z auto. They simply do not know what they are doing.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

Installing an ignition interlock device typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on your vehicle type. Certified technicians ensure the device is properly installed and provide you with training on how to use it. Contact Intoxalock for an appointment and an accurate time estimate for your installation.
What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
Yes, in most cases, you can install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle you regularly drive, even if you’re not the registered owner.
