i came back to Pacific Car Care because another shop quoted me $2000 to fix an engine noise on my Ranger alleging it was caused by the power steering pump. However Pacific’s owner Ken proved to me the noise was actually coming from the water pump, by literally making me listen to it with a stethoscope. Amazing. He also showed me i had a radiator leak and an almost empty radiator fluid tank! Scary. He fixed that complementary. The other shop did not warn me of this at all. The power steering pump was indeed shot and they explained why. The whole diagnosis was complementary and i really appreciated the thoroughness and the explanations, which btw were given with no solicitation on my part. Top notch. I ended up replacing water pump, timing belt, power steering pump+lines for the same $2000 i was quoted for just the power steering stuff. It’s not small change for an old truck so i really appreciated the respect and time they gave me to make me understand what was going on and why the repairs were suggested.

Came in for an oil change and got my life saved. A part in the steering mechanism was worn down from something another mechanic overlooked and passed off as a minor issue. A bad bump could have sent me upstairs early, and these guys found it in time. Thank you!

How much is a kind, reliable, trustworthy and efficient mechanic worth? INVALUABLE. Anytime there is an issue I never have to pause, just bring the car directly in to this shop. Mike, Ken and team are incredible. Knowledgeable, great at explaining things, offer helpful suggestions for the easy fixes and they really know their stuff-- diagnostics are fast because they have a wealth of experience. Highly recommend.

After paying for a $1400 fix to replace a water pump, the issue with my engine overheating and the heater not working were not resolved. The shop then suggested another fix to address the issue for $2100 which they said "will probably fix the issue." At this point I was wondering if the $1400 for the initial fix was necessary at all... not sure. Of course, the shop said it was. When I visited another shop I was informed the computer code was indeed indicating the water pump was broken, but this was not the case. The new shop (Tom Dwyer) then informed me Toyota would resolve this issue at no cost. I thanked them and scheduled an appointment at a Toyota Dealer. They fixed the broken catalytic converter at no cost. It may have just been bad luck and poor communication, but it is not good service when a shop wants to charge $3500 for an issue they did not know was covered by the manufacturer.
