Fountain Tire in Thunder Bay, a leading tire dealer offering auto repair services and Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly tires for cars, trucks, Atv's, trailers, farm equipment and fleets.
I was moving about 16 hours away to Southern ON but forgot my tires in storage the day before I was planning to move (Saturday). Fountain tire is closed on weekends but they have an after hours number for roadside emergencies. By the kindness of the operator and the on call tech Quin, they were able to put something together so I could get my tires before moving. Fountain tire really goes above and beyond for their customers and I couldn’t be more grateful!! Thank you!

The staff at fountain tire are awesome always friendly and knowledgeable. After a mishap on the weekend they were able to fit my tire change and fix a flat tire and do this 3 days before my scheduled appointment. All during arguably one of their busiest times of the year. Hats off to you guys , I can’t tell you enough how grateful I am 6 stars out of 5 customer service means a lot to this old veteran cheers

Needed new tires for our truck. I sent an e-mail to them, one of the owner's got back to me literally within an hour. I was able to book the truck in the following week. They gave me options for tires with no pressure. Brought the truck in, they were installed super quick. Very easy to deal with!
Tires wear out over time, and how long they last depends on things like road conditions, driving habits, inflation, and temperature. The best way to know when to replace them is to check them regularly.
Common ways to measure tread include the following.
- Tread wear bars: When these are flush with the tread, it’s time to replace.
- Coin test: If too much of the coin shows, your tread is low.
- Tread depth gauge: The most accurate way to measure.
If your tread is low or you see cracks, bulges, or notice vibration, come see us.
What are some signs my vehicle is out of alignment?
It doesn’t take much to throw your alignment off—potholes, curbs, or just everyday driving. Poor alignment can lead to faster tire wear and poor handling.
Common signs include:
- Vehicle pulls to one side
- Crooked steering wheel
- Uneven tire wear
- Loose or unstable steering
- Vibration in the steering wheel
If something feels off, we’re happy to take a look.
What’s included in the seasonal car care package?
Our seasonal car care package gets your vehicle ready for the weather ahead. It includes:
- Fresh engine oil and filter
- Chassis lubrication (as needed)
- Charging and starting system check
- Brake inspection
- Fluid top-ups
- Belt and hose inspection
- Battery test
- Tire and pressure check
- Heating/cooling system check
- Lights, wipers, and overall safety check
It’s a great way to make sure your vehicle is ready for the season.
What do the numbers on my tires mean?
The numbers on your tire’s sidewall tell you the size, load rating, and speed rating.
Example: 225/55R17 97H
- 225 – Tire width (mm)
- 55 – Height as a % of width
- R – Radial construction
- 17 – Wheel diameter (inches)
- 97 – Load rating (how much weight it can carry)
- H – Speed rating (maximum safe speed)
These numbers help us match you with the right tire.
When should I put my winter tires on?
A good rule of thumb: when you can see your breath — about 7°C and below. At that temperature, all-season tires start to harden, while winter tires stay flexible and grippy. Booking early helps you beat the rush.
