so, when I called originally, I'd said I wanted an oil change and a transmission fluid and filter change (chevy silverado 5.3 4x4 with a 4L60E transmission). the lady that answered and that I spoke with was pleasant, said yeah we can do that, come on down. so I go down there, they get me pulled in, she'd asked if I was the one that had just called, I said yeah, they proceed with the services. I'm outside along a fence sitting on the curb, see a guy in the pit, they're doing their thing, I'm on my work iPad doing mine. after a bit, I notice I don't see anyone under the truck, which of course they'd need to be to do the transmission filter. when I went up to ask shouldn't they be getting that pan off pretty soon (it was fairly late in the afternoon), they said they don't service it like that. I then asked them to not do the transmission service and was told they were almost done with it. I expressed my not being pleased with that, as I know I asked about it on the phone, and the manager was very adamant I had not and we went back and forth for a moment on whether or not I had actually asked for the filter to be changed. (I cannot say emphatically enough that I for sure asked for that to be a part of the service, but my main complaint is how they overfilled it - see below) anyway, she apologizes, we speak for a moment afterwards, she tells me they don't even offer that service (pulling the pan, changing the filter). I explain I had no idea, I didn't know what they did or didn't do, only what I asked for. she was pleasant, I knew I was going to have to go elsewhere to have this done the way I wanted, such is life. they finish up, total up my ticket, she puts a $25 discount on there, I pay and go on my way.
fast forward to the next day. I'm about to leave town to go home, I'd been driving to a few work locations (so my transmission was at operating temperature), I fill up my gas tank, I check my oil (it's fine), I start my truck to check the transmission fluid and find the fluid to be HALF WAY UP MY DIPSTICK. needless to say, that is WELL ABOVE the full/hot mark it should have been at. had I not been so close to there, I would have had it towed in. (being overfull, especially that overfull, can cause numerous problems. some of them would have required I drive for awhile in that state, some of them could have already started a path to a failure that just hasn't fully became a problem yet - leaks at seals specifically). so I go back, they check the fluid and of course confirm what I'd just checked to find. I told them I didn't want the girls touching my truck that had been the ones doing the partial service the day before, one of the guys working there came over when he had time, and proceeds to have to siphon the considerable amount of fluid it was overfull out thru the dipstick. the manager, again very politely, apologizes for my experience going on day two now with their company. the gentleman working on it shows me the reading on the dipstick when he was done, I thank him and leave.
*problems still could result from this having happened, I'd never be able to prove it if/when they do, the only bright spot is at least I found the problem quickly. the overwhelming majority of people would never have checked the fluids they just paid someone to change for them. I think the owner of that location should get his employees some training before any more customers vehicles are affected
