I was contacted by a customer rep and spoke to them regarding each incident and was assured each matter would be remedied. I hope this service will continue as it is already a stressful situation.

The installer is great. This is the second vehicle. What is not so great is both times within 20 miles or 20 hrs I was in a lock out, once because no matter what I did it said I wasn't blowing hard enough...violation in 20 miles. The second unit takes forever to go into count down mode and sometimes a senior citizen cannot wait on the random whim of a machine or whoever is taking your picture to exit the vehicle. Instead of going into count down mode with the vehicle turned off it called for a test. Sometimes the tones for the commands are not even audible. Today, probably the4th, 5th, or 6th test, it requested a test and came back failed, it made me wait in a count down then asked for another test, which I passed. After I turned off the vehicle and waited for the count down it did. When I went back to start the car, instead of reading "clearing" it said 5:00, I hit the button again and it did what it is supposed to do. Now when I go into another county or city both units make noises kind of like dolphins. Yesterday it whistled like take a test, but the screen was blank. After 10 or 12 miles more, it then called for a test. There is nothing like being far from assistance and your device acting just ridiculous enough to make you wonder if you are going to make it home or to Safety. You have to check your account constantly because just by coincidence if something needs to be signed or even though you are set up on auto pay it says you are in arrears with payments, some little error winds you up in a lockout, then you get to listen to someone that speaks the queens English belittle you and let you know how unsmart you are. If you are an established customer but really need to speak to a human being you are sent to a list of options and every time you choose an option you get a non human answer and you are in an endless loop that will arrive you to absolutely nowhere...mental cruelty by my definition. In order to speak to a human being I had to call the Board of Testing in my State who gave me a number to call, it was an answering machine but I left a message. The next day knowing I wished to install a second device someone from the Nice part of the labor pool called me and hooked me up. Lock outs are expensive, not just the installers charge for a recalibration but intoxalock fees, state fees and so on and so forth. I am in the wrong business. The reasons for a senior having to leave a vehicle before a prompt that may or may not happen are as follows: #1. #2.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
