I came in with a cooling system concern and was not asking for a diagnosis — I was simply trying to ask whether my coolant temperature could be checked. Before I could fully explain the issue, an older male associate immediately cut me off and stated that if there was no check engine light, they “couldn’t diagnose anything.” Despite saying he couldn’t diagnose, he then proceeded to rule out the thermostat and assert that the issue was most likely low coolant, a coolant control issue, or a fan relay. The vehicle was not overheating, and low coolant ultimately was not the problem. When I mentioned the vehicle was running around 160°F, that should have prompted at least basic consideration of a thermostat-related issue, as that is below normal operating temperature. Instead, the concern was dismissed outright. What made the experience worse was overhearing the associate later speaking to another employee about the situation in a smug, dismissive way, framing it as an obvious low-coolant issue without having listened to the actual symptoms while I was still in the store. I later confirmed the issue myself — the thermostat was failing, and replacing it immediately resolved the problem. For contrast, I went to O’Reilly’s afterward and was helped by employees who appeared to be in their early 20s. The difference was night and day. They listened, were respectful, and didn’t assume or write me off. It was a good reminder that experience isn’t about age — it’s about attitude and willingness to listen. I will not be returning to this AutoZone location.

This last experience has me thinking I will NEVER go back. They said they had a thermostat in stock, then didn't but another OKC store could send it and have it by Friday and they would call and let us know when it got in...no call Friday so Saturday my husband went up there to find out that NO store had any but Tulsa had one "if we wanted to drive and get it"… SERIOUSLY !! My husband said NO we would get our money back and go somewhere else..then they said OH we will have it put on a truck and it will be here by Monday and WILL CALL you when it gets in....NO CALL again. Went up there to get my money back and Come to find out it had been up there and NO ONE CALLED!!! I am a retail manager and when 3 people say they will call when it gets in then YOU BETTER CALL!!! Hopefully no one else has to get a major run around. Napa and O Reilly are right down the road.

I'm new to the area and came in with my son twice and once by myself. All the employees are nice and helpful. The store is clean and organized. First time we came in was to test my alternator and battery for my Toyota FJ Cruiser that I bought a few months ago in Las Vegas and moved here to retire. My battery terminals were not good , so I bought some replacements. After installing I came back in to have them tested and also picked up new Sylvania Silverstar Ultra headlight bulbs. Funny thing is on the package there is a picture of a deer in the headlights and the night after I installed them we were coming from Crest grocery store and a deer jumped out in front of me and I had to slam on the brakes and missed him by about 2 feet maybe. The day we were installing the battery terminals , my son dropped one of the nuts and it went under the battery tray. We went to AutoZone to get a replacement nut and also one of the telescoping magnetic pickup tools for the next time something like this happens. One of the employees opened one of the packages and just gave us the missing nut with no charge. Everyone here in Mustang reminds me of the nice and polite people I grew up with in small town South Carolina. It feels like home.
