When we picked up the rental Chevy Trax they let us know it had a large crack in the windshield. This was the least of the issues. Upon opening the door we were overwhelmed with the air freshner spray that saturated the entire vehicle. It became apparently shortly afterwards as to why; it was done to mask the overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. The smell was so bad you could smell it on yourself after exitiing the vehicle. Additionally, the respiratory agitation this caused anytime we used the vehicle was nearly unbearable. Considering there are signs all over the Enterprise office that state there is a $250 cleaning fee if you smoke in a vehicle, and they took the time to tell us about the crack but not mention the smoke or air freshner and still rent this vehicle out, is unacceptable. Unfortuantely returning the vehicle would have required missing more work. Enterprise's solution was a "free upgrade" in the future. Considering this rental was free since the accident wasn't our fault and we've never rented a vehicle, this really wasn't a solution. Enterprise should have been transparent on the full condition of the vehicle before renting it out. In this case we would have never accepted it. I was asked to report this through their website, which I did. I was told I would receive a call back by the regional manager. This never occurred. This lack of service and follow through has become too common place anymore. Add Enterprise to a company I will never recommend or use.
