I went to Central Collision to repair a bumper after an accident. They were nice and cordial through the setup of the appointment and guiding me through the process since this was my first time working with a body shop.
However, when I got my car back I noticed the color was darker than the rest and they had missed painting a corner of the panel. I pointed this out and they touched it up and said the color was different because of the PPF film on the rest of the front end. I assumed the rest was good (since this was my first time dealing with this) and went on my way.
When I got home I had family members mention that the color looked off and then started really looking at it. There was a lots of dust specs in the paint, and plastic pieces in the clear coat where the panels clipped in. So I took it back up there and a guy tried to grind some out in the lot and apply touch up.
There was still lots of dust specs and the color had still been bugging me after a few days so I called and left a voicemail about taking the panels off and really checking it over to get rid of all the specs in the paint. They never called back so I stopped in after work one day.
The owner came out to look at it and told me it was good work and there’s nothing else that could be done for it and when I pointed out all the issues and how it was not like this before the accident he shrugged his shoulders. I asked “Are you really going to make me get my insurance involved to get this fixed” to which he replied “go ahead and call them”. He eventually said they could try to get the dust specs out but he wasn’t redoing anything.
I did contact my insurance and they eventually sent out an adjuster who agreed with me that it was not up to standard and that the color was too far off from the rest of the vehicle and paid for me to take it elsewhere. The second body shop (C & D Collision) was much more professional and also found broken clips where it was replaced, had to order the correct emblem on the grille, found out an additional part wasn’t fixed, and repainted the bumper to better match the paint.
TLDR: Tons of dust specs and mismatched paint and refusal to fix, insurance paid for me to go somewhere else.
