I came in for a battery, but unfortunately because of the battery’s location in my car they weren’t able to install it for me. I decided to leave, got in my car, and… it wouldn’t start! The battery had completely died in the parking lot. I went back in and they gave me a jump and made conversation— the woman even called a family member who was a mechanic and he offered to install the battery for me despite its rough placement. All in all, it’s never fun to have your battery die, but their consideration and kindness meant the world to me. If they’re reading this, thank you!

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
