I’ve taken my vehicle to Quality Affordable Transmissions multiple times over the years, and every repair has been a success. They do the job right the first time, and my car has always run great afterward. What really impressed me was their willingness to fight with my extended warranty company to make sure the repair was covered — they truly went above and beyond for me. The team is honest, professional, and keeps you informed throughout the process. If you’re looking for a trustworthy transmission shop in Baltimore that delivers quality work at a fair price, Quality Affordable Transmissions is the place to go.

I started out calling them for an idea of how much it would cost to rebuild the transmission in my wife’s 2006 ford explorer. Mickey told me 1300 to 2000.00. I then had the car towed there. Sat for a few weeks ( about 6) then he calls me and tells me, after he test drove (supposedly) that it would be 2300, and he knows exactly what’s wrong with it. Then he calls back and says 2600. I tried 3 times to go in and pay for it, and he was never there (supposedly). The last time he called was to tell me that the transmission line that runs into the radiator ( the fitting) was bad. And now they have to put a new radiator in it for additional 750.00. I bought a new radiator for 182.00 through Oriellys , called him and told him that I had the radiator and I bringing it to him, and he said ok. I arrived 15 minutes later, went into the office and spoke to a lady behind the desk and asked for Mickey. She said he wasn’t there. Told her I wasn’t running around with 3 grand in my pockets. And that I just spoke to him on the phone. Nevertheless, I said I wasn’t running around there 3 times to pay, and there wouldn’t be a 4th. ( by the way, I would of known if that line would of failed, there wouldn’t of been smoke, and the whole underside of the car would of been soaked with transmission fluid. I believe they broke it getting it apart, and instead of being honest, tried to put the blame on something else. ) anyways, when I was leaving, a guy comes out, and starts yelling at me. I asked who are you, and he said “ im Mickey, I own this place”. He talked to me like I was a imbecile, and I told him to drop the car off the lift and I would tow it home. In my mind he was very unprofessional, a bully, and most importantly, a scam artist. Now this is just my experience, do what you like.

Terrible quality, terrible customer service, terrible communication, terrible scheduling, and they will not stand behind their work. We dropped my son's truck off when we were instructed. They kept it for 9 weeks just to rebuild the transmission. When we picked up the truck it had shift issues. We were told it needed to be driven a few days to relearn the TCM and ECM. The problem with that is there is diagnostic software that does that immediately upon completion of the rebuild or replacement of a transmission. We took the truck back after 2 weeks with a complaint the truck stalled out and died when coming to a stop. It had very hard downshifts from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to first gear. They kept the truck for 4 days and reported they could not duplicate the problem. In my opinion they never drove the truck to see what the complaint was. After 200 miles the engine failed and I'm not convinced the faulty transmission didn't have something to do with that. We ordered a long block from Summit Racing and when the engine was pulled it was found the torque converter was bad. This was supposed to have been replaced when it was rebuilt. Mickey swapped torque converters with me but the one he gave me would not lock into the transmission pump drive. At that time I was beginning to doubt the competence and quality capabilities of Quality Affordable Transmission. By the the way, the name of their business is an oxymoron because the quality is non existent and at $2,800 to rebuild a 545RFE trans neither is it affordable. Especially when my son was without a vehicle for 9 weeks. Mickey refused to warranty the transmission with only 282 miles on it. We shop that installed the new engine said there was an issue with the pump pressure in the transmission. We then took the truck to a Dyno shop in Athens to have it professional tuned. They could not get the truck to idle or prevent it from stalling and reported that something was wrong with the transmission. Following that we took the truck to ABC Driveline in Lancaster for diagnostics and was told the issue causing the truck to not idle and stall out was due to problems with the pump pressure in the transmission or internal line leaks. At this point we ordered a remanufactured transmission from Monster Performance Transmissions in Florida. The total cost for the transmission and torque converter was $3,300 with a 3 year unlimited miles warranty. We installed the transmission and had a local transmission shop come and relearned the TCM and ECM. As soon as he was done the truck ran perfectly and continues to do so 1,200 miles later. There is ZERO doubt the transmission Quality Affordable Transmission rebuilt, kept 9 weeks, and billed us $2,800 to rebuild was junk. I approached Mickey at Quality Affordable Transmission and explained the story above and asked for a refund and I would give him the junk he rebuilt back to him. This truck belongs to a 19 year old young man who works hard as an electrician apprentice and he didn't deserve to lose $2,800 because of their shoddy and completely unprofessional work and behavior. I was told I was not getting a refund and asked to get off their property and never come back. I will be taking Quality Affordable Transmission to small claims court because they know, without doubt that the transmission they supposedly rebuilt was faulty. I will ask the court to allow me to have the transmission examined by a professional transmission repair shop to identify why the transmission never worked from the day we picked up the truck. I will post the results of this case once it has been resolved. I hope that anyone who needs transmission work reads this so that you can be informed by real life experience what you can expect from Quality Affordable Transmission. Save yourself a lot of time and a lot of money and buy a remanufactured transmission from a reputable rebuilder and avoid wasting time and money with this untrustworthy business.
