I didn't have a great experience here. Normally I would fix things on my vehicle myself, I've been busy fixing up my home and decided to give the auto shop around the corner from my house a try. I checked on their website where you can schedule your own appointment. One of the first things you see is an advertisement for "free estimates" and "free quotes". Awesome! As a small business owner myself I often give discounts to first time clients to get them in the door.
I drop my car off, they let me know they'll give me a call. I didn't recieve a call at the designated time/day that was agreed upon, so the following day I reach out. I was quoted a price that was over double what I expected. I called my long standing mechanic I've been going to on and off for the past 15 years across town. I was told the quote included a part that wasn't necessary for the repair and a TOOL that was needed for the job. At no point in time should anyone be paying for a tool that the shop is using on your vehicle and will continue to use on other vehicles, that's a business expense and the responsibility of the shop. If you're charging me for a tool, I'm taking it home with me.
After deciding that the shop wasn't a good fit for me I decided to grab my vehicle. After calling in, I'm told that the free estimate/free quote does not apply when you bring your vehicle in to get diagnosed. The free estimate/free quote is done over the phone. I'm hit with a diagnostic fee I was completely unaware of until it was time to pick up my vehicle. I have no problem paying working professionals for their time, their time is valuable. But I need to know I'm what being charged before I take my vehicle in.
The interactions I had with the employees at Olson Auto were polite and professional. The biggest issue I have with this business is transparency. If your business advertisements suggest you'll give me an estimate of the repairs for free, it should be clearly stated when I call to make an appointment that there is in fact a diagnostic fee for bringing my vehicle in. It should also be clearly explained that additional items have been added for repair when a mechanic quotes me for a job. I shouldn't be getting an estimate that has an additonal part that was not discussed over the phone as well as a tool needed for the job.
I'm disappointed with my experience and was hoping to find a mechanic a little closer to home I could use for repairs when I just don't have the time or tools for the job. This one isn't it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Olson Auto Repairs LLC
Why do you charge for running diagnostics?
Diagnostic fees cover the costs of time, specialized equipment, and professional expertise required to accurately identify vehicle problems. This process involves more than simply reading error codes and requires technicians with years of specialized training. The diagnostic process allows our team to take sufficient time to ensure accurate repairs on the first attempt, maintaining our high standards of service.
How often should I get my oil changed?
We suggest following the oil change intervals specified in your vehicle's owner's manual. The traditional 3,000-mile guideline is no longer applicable for many modern vehicles and oil formulations. For vehicles using synthetic oil, oil change intervals may be extended up to 7,500 miles, depending on your specific vehicle requirements.
How often should I change my other fluids?
Our recommended fluid replacement intervals are: brake fluid every 50,000 miles, coolant every 75,000 miles, transmission fluid every 75,000-100,000 miles, differential fluid every 50,000 miles, and power steering fluid every 75,000 miles.
How often should I change my air filter?
The general recommendation is to replace your engine air filter approximately every 30,000 miles. This interval may vary based on your specific vehicle model and driving environment conditions.
Do you offer warranties?
Yes, we provide a 36-month or 36,000-mile warranty on most of our services, whichever occurs first. This warranty reflects our confidence in the quality and reliability of our repair work.
What is the point of a tire rotation?
Tire rotation is essential for maximizing tire longevity. Regular redistribution of wear patterns across all tires significantly extends their service life. Failing to rotate tires may result in premature tire replacement or, in severe cases, tire failure during vehicle operation.
Why does Olson Auto Repairs LLC charge a diagnostic fee?
