- SDScuba DivemasterJul 6, 20251.0There were no triple square bits in the specialty tools aisle of the store, so I asked Billy at the front desk if there were any triple square bits. Billy walked away to a display behind the counter then he says, “is a screwdriver ok?” Although I asked for a bit, I quickly replied “sure.” Then as I got closer, I saw that he had what looked like a Torx screwdriver, I said, “no I actually need a bit.” Billy spun around to face me and then held up his fist and shook his fist in my face. Then he snapped, “we don’t have a bit.” I told Billy do not ever put your fist in my face again, you must treat me with respect, Billy tried to downplay it so I asked him how he would like it if a store manager put his fist up to his wife’s face and shook his fist in her face.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
