Tried twice to get my car inspected here. First time we had an appointment they wouldn't honor due to a 2 hour backup. 2nd time we got in and got a call back within 30 minutes that they needed about $1k to replace the struts. After some discussion, it turns out that's not part of the inspection, so I asked to complete the inspection and write me an estimate for their recommendation. That could have worked. They called back 5 minutes later to tell me they can't pass the inspection without replacing tires, but didn't know what tires, whether they're in stock, how much that might cost. So I called it off and picked my car up. 2 stars because they seem like nice guys.

Today had an inspection on my daughter’s truck . Bruno and Larry are always so nice to me and my family , that’s why love dealing with them and I trust them . They don’t try to sell you something you don’t need . They were quick . I pass a mavis on my way to their location ( what does that tell you ? ). If you use this location , always ask for Larry or Bruno , you won’t be disappointed Chris P ( ‘65 Buick )

Should have asked for it…, proper wheel lug torque and wipers.... I lived in NY, 1992 to 2006. While visiting my daughter, I took her car to Mavis Discount Tire @ 222 W. Main St., Smithtown NY on 06NOV25. I observed one of techs in the car seemingly rifling through both glove boxes. I asked are you looking for the wheel lock? The tech responded in the affirmative and after a few moments held it up in his hand to show me, he got it. I turned to the service manager and said; “I don’t even go through the glove box, it’s not my car, not professional.” To which he asked me, you never have a car inspected before? Take it up with NY state (paraphrased). That got my irish up. Heated words were exchanged for a few moments. My last words were “you should have asked for it, not professional”. Service manager got the last of the heated words in by threatening to end the inspection, and saying I should have known to produce the lock…. I Had many NY state vehicle inspections prior to 2006. Never saw a wheel come off…. I called to another tech who was pulling the driver’s side front and rear wheels asking, “do you know the wheel lug torque number?” “I da no, 80”, he said. I added, “I think it’s 85.” Later, seemingly without checking any sources the tech hammered all 10 lug nuts on with a pneumatic impact wrench, then proceeded to seemingly set a torque wrench and hit each lug nut The tool clicked off at whatever setting, immediately with no lug nut movement. Needless to say, it took a 4-foot black pipe over a 2-foot breaker bar to break the nuts loose… During the inspection the 2 techs seemed fixated on the now exposed brake rotors and brake assembly. Way over emoting and way overselling their seemed concern. After many moments, one then headed towards the door and the service manager quickly went through the door to the shop, meeting him half way. You see I had preemptively nipped that major up sale in the bud, by previously asking the manager to produce a print-out, that showed a different Mavis had replaced brake pads and rotors on 03NOV23 just 8,000 miles ago. They exchanged words for a few seconds and parted company with disappointment showing on their faces. The manager sheepishly walked back to his area. He had not even met eyes with me nor spoke a word to, at, or with me since threatening to stop the inspection. A moment later he said, “your wipers don’t wipe…” I interrupted and said, “just replaced them.” The tech pulled the car out and brought the key to the manager. After settling the bill in silence, as he handed the key over, I said, “sorry my friend, no up sale today”. He replied, “go away. It’s too early for this”.

I have been coming here for the past 2 years. Bruno, Larry, and the team have always been pleasant and professional. I’ve had 2 sets of tires mounted and balanced here along with a wheel alignments and have never had an issue. I even left my wheel lock behind one time and when I missed their call, they held it for me for 2 weeks until I realized and called them. When I came to pick it up, it was labeled with my name on it. Good customer service is rare these days and I appreciate the team here.
