The intoxalock device does not detect alcohol, it detects sugars. Alco sensors are not admissible in court because they are not a scientific instrument. These should not be admissible in a legal setting either. These devices also kill vehicle batteries. I have cameras on my driveway and every night, all night, you can see a light come on in the vehicle. I found it is the IR's on the camera turning on and off. The company itself sole purpose is to extort money from people who don't have a choice. They charge a set up fee and a closing fee when you first sign up. If you extend your lease, they charge ANOTHER set up and closing fee. All of this is sponsored by the state who probably is getting kick backs. None of this should be legal. Update..... I have a signed lease until the 11th of April, 2026 and as of today, my account is showing the lease is expired and that my account is not in good standing, demanding I extend the lease now. More attempts at extorting money. This company is extremely fraudulent.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
