Where do I start about how terrible Mavis is here. This is my experience at the one in Lindenhurst. It wasn’t recent but my other review was taken down off their site. So I went there back in 2021 to get a set of new tires for my Scion. I really like supporting the businesses that are in my area so Mavis had the selection I was looking for. I chose to purchase 4xToyo tires. That’s where the fun starts. They tell me they don’t have a machine that can do aftermarket wheels and the machine they have will put a slight mark on them. What? Your business mainly does tires, right? Like that’s in your name. You don’t see aftermarket wheels on other customer’s cars? Mind you, my wheels aren’t special or large. Regular wheels from a big brand manufacturer. Ok, no problem, let’s move forward. They put the tires on and I pay the $1K for the set. I drive out. During the ride home (~2 miles) I notice a slight vibration but it’s too late now to go back there. I take it back the following weekend and let them know about the vibration. They check the balancing and they say nothing wrong. So I’m like ok with that and go to my regular shop. They put the car up on the lift and immediately tell me the vibration is caused by the wheels. Ok, my bad. I purchase a new set of wheels and they arrive the following week. I take the car back to Mavis and ask them to put the tires on the new wheels. We can’t do that, they tell me. What? Why not? They say they are used tires and they won’t work on them. I’m a bit frustrated now. These tires have 5 total miles on them and I bought the set from you, here, at this shop. It’s simple enough. Remove and install on the new wheels. I’m not refusing to pay for the work. I expect to pay for the work. Ok, they relent and unmount and mount the tires on the new wheels. I notice a mark on one tire but don’t think anything of it. I drive off again and the car feels right. No more vibration. My regular shop was right. Ok, the next weekend I take a trip to my house in PA. I notice a golf ball sized bulge protruding from my tire. I barely drove the car and surely didn’t hit anything or go through a pothole. But tires are usually super durable in my experience. I drive back to LI and take it back to Mavis. Here is where it gets shady. So I tell them the story about what transpired and that I just bought these tires. This happened right after I left when they remounted the tire. I inquired about replacing the defective tire. It’s defective in manufacturing or in installation. One of the 2. But a warranty should cover this right? No, wrong. They deny any involvement and of course claim I did this by driving over potholes at 100mph. They won’t warranty it. A tire I just bought at under 400 miles and was perfect until I asked you to remount them on new wheels. So back and forth, they say I have to pay for a new tire, but if I buy the protection package, they’ll go half. I relent since they aren’t budging. All in all, I pay for the coverage and half of a new tire. So in the end, I go there to get a set of new tires, leave with 5 tires, extended warranty I didn’t want instead, and a bad taste in my mouth because people couldn’t remount tires properly; something they do day in and day out. All in all, I filed a BBB report on them and never came back. So if you want to prevent getting poor service and ripped off, just stay away and go to your local trustworthy independent shop. The kicker is that I gave these guys multiple cash tips too. Never again Mavis. Pictures are of the brand new tire with the bulge. I work on cars too so I know what happens. They weren’t careful and broke the steel belt on the sidewall. Why should the customer pay again for your tech’s mistake.
