- NNNCTUNANov 16, 20252.0I went in to buy one thing for my car, but when I went to pay for it, the worker at the register was talking to another customer about their personal lives, knowing I was right behind waiting to pay for what I had, never acknowledging me while I stood and waited. It took them 20 minutes to finish talking when I couldve been out of there in 5 minutes. I was close to just leaving it on the counter and walking out right there and then. Once it was my turn, he barely talked to me and pretty much did it in under a few minutes.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
