- VHVicki HickeyJan 28, 20255.0The front staff person (with thicker glasses) was extremely helpful in assisting me with getting the correct window wipers for my 2009 kia van . He pulled up the information on the computer and suggested the best, less expensive options to replace the stripped, rubber lining on the windshield wiper blades due to the extreme cold (and length of time since last replaced). He was so very helpful, especially bc the rear windshield wiper had a zip-tie-fastened to the wiper blade to keep it in place and function properly, and he felt bc he unknowingly cut it that he had to replace the same zip-tie set-up. I was so grateful bc it was late, it was getting dark, it was freezing out, the windshield wipers were not working, and I wasn't familiar with the area. It was very convenient bc the Advance Auto Parts store was well lit and located right along the main road for an easy pull off into a good-sized parking lot!

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
