They charged me nearly $200 and told me I would get $65 back if I returned the old part. Today, I brought the old caliper back, but the employee said I needed the receipt to get the refund. Unfortunately, I lost it. They have a full inventory and billing system, so they should be able to look up the transaction in their system. But the employee refused to help. Even stores like Walmart offer returns or exchanges without a receipt—they at least try to help the customer. Here, it feels like they just wanted to keep my $65. I don’t recommend shopping here. Next time, I’ll stick to Amazon or other retailers. I won’t be coming back to Advance Auto Parts.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
