    I am normally a National guy but it was 1k to rent a AWD suv to go to Tahoe so I bit the bullet and went with Sixt. I read all the reviews and was apprehensive about getting hustled and hit with phantom charges so I made sure to document the before and after and will say I was pleasantly surprised with my experience. Got upgraded to a Mercedes GLS so I definitely took care of the car and had no issues with the pickup or return.

    PROS: Every employee I came in contact with were very friendly and helpful. They gave me a brand new car which they upgraded complimentary since it was their last available car which was very nice. CONS: I purposely chose this location because I believed it was connected to the airport. Unfortunately, it is not, which was disappointing and inconvenient. The girl at the front desk was very pleasant—almost too pleasant given that there was a line forming. What seemed like a quick interaction turned into a long personal conversation with the guest ahead of me. They discussed things like her perfume, the guest’s wavy hair, and even how the guest was born the same year as the employee’s mom. After about 12 minutes of waiting, I completed my check-in online so I could skip the conversation and move things along. Unfortunately , the shuttle driver radioed in and we still waited for chatty Cathy which was another 10 minutes. A little more awareness of the line would have made the experience much smoother.

    As someone who has rented cars an avg. of 20x times per year for the past 18 years I am baffled with Sixt. I have never encountered a company where you cannot return your car after hours (their hours are 7 AM - 10 PM), especially when flights leave the airport well before then. Upon renting we were told that shuttle from the airport only runs 7 AM - 10 PM but nothing about car return issues outside of hours. We ended up seeing people post about this online so we communicated with Sixt customer service chat and they told us there were no after hours returns, we then called the Sixt customer service phone and received the same information. When asked to be put in touch with the Reno location they said they couldn’t connect me as they didn’t have the phone number. I couldn’t call the Reno location as there is no published number. I don’t know how a rental car branch doesn’t have their own phone and/or cannot be contacted by corporate customer service. Caught in a bind with a 7 AM flight tomorrow I had to drive the car back to Sixt to drop off early, rent from another company with after hours drop off and then drive back to South Lake Tahoe. The really “fun” part was upon dropping the car off at Sixt one person said I could do after hours drop off and another said I could not. They are not even aligned among employees in the branch. Do yourself a favor and stay far far away from Sixt in Reno. The cars may be nice but nothing is worth the headaches.

    Ridiculous that you cannot drop off a car before 7am. Upon car pickup, they just told us the shuttle does not start until 7am, not that you couldn’t drop off before then. This is incredibly deceptive as we are staying in Tahoe and have to spend the money to drop the car a day early and get an alternative form of transportation. This is not clear in the rental agreement or advertising and is a non standard rental practice. It is a pain and inflates the cost of the rental materially. Thanks for eating into our vacation with your deceptive practices.

    Here's why a four, not a five... starting with the minus one star: 1) No pickup and drop off at the airport; 2) their shuttles don't start until 7am. This presents a practical problem for early flights and the inconvenience of no drop-off at the airport. If the shuttle started at 5am or earlier it would resolve this issue. The four stars: 1) Excellent customer service tied to 2) very straightforward rental and drop-off procedures tied to 3) easy use technology, makes for an excellent customer service experience overall. If Sixt would add pickup/drop-off service, this would be my rental car company of choice.
