$180 to mount used snow tires on a tiny car! As a mechanic, this is robbery.. like paying $20 for a sip of water.

Absolute scammers and con men who caused way more damage than was existing. Totally feel extra scammed because I’m a woman too!
Their shotty, unprofessional and sloppy work caused me to break down the very next day on the side of a very unsafe mountain road and then refused to take responsibility and refund me like initially the manager, Walt, had promised me. Cost me another thousand dollars just to get my car back to the condition it was before taking it to them, so they never even addressed the reason for taking it in either.

Took my car in for an oil and filter change at Sierra Car Care on California Ave.(Union 76):
1)QUOTED me $169 when I asked how much it would be to get an oil change.
The quote should have been $99.
Kyle told me he assumed I wanted to buy their 2 oil changes for the price of one, “Because most people get that”
Fair mistake I guess.
2) INACCURATE TIRE TREAD READINGS:
Service Order showed my TIRE TREAD was 7/32 in the front and 4/32 in the rear.
I was concerned that Sierra Car Care showed that my tire tread was wearing down much more rapidly than it ever has, that I ended up taking my car to the place where I purchased the tires to see if the readings were accurate or not.
My tires are relatively new and I haven’t been driving my car that much. They showed me each tread reading ,and each one was repeated for accuracy. It turned out that the tread was 8-9 in the front and 5-6 in the rear. That is HIGHER in each tire than SCC had quoted.
When I went back to SCC and complained about their tire tread readings being inaccurate they confirmed that their measurements had been off, but because they weren’t trying to sell me tires during the oil change It wasn’t anything to be concerned about.
My thinking is that if your place of business sells a fair amount of TIRES it would be very important to make sure tread gauges are working properly and the mechanics using them know how to perform proper measurements.
3) OIL LEAKED and STAINED MY GARAGE FLOOR, and left me wondering if they tightened things up well enough, or maybe didn’t do what they were supposed to do.
I soaked up the oil on the garage floor with a paper towel and took my car back to the shop so they could see how much leaked. I was concerned because it was a darker color and had more of an odor than fresh oil.
I was told by Walt ,the General Manager, that the oil wasn’t actually a leak but had dripped out when the oil was emptied out. He also said that the old oil ,that sometimes collects in that area ,should be cleaned up, but that sometimes the mechanics might forget to do that when they get busy.
I asked the mechanic if he changed the filter and he said he didn’t. The oil change quote is supposed to include a new oil filter.
Maybe he thought I said: “Did you change the “air filter’(?)
There is more, but suffice it to say I will be taking it to the dealer for a recheck to see if I will be needing new rotors and brake pads.
Maybe I worry too much…
Lastly, I went back to the shop when I drove off and realized my maintenance light was still on, even though I had asked the mechanic if he would reset it.
It wasn’t his error, it was just that he didn’t communicate to me why he didn’t reset it. 4)TIRE PRESSURE:My car pulled to the right immediately after leaving the shop, so I asked him to recheck the air pressure to make sure it was even in all of the tires. It turned out that one of them was lower than the others, even though he showed them all being at 35psi on the paper. He said the tire gauge doesn’t work right, so he puts in, according to his gauge, 2 psi more than it should be.

Sierra got my vehicle fixed on time and at a fair cost. I shopped around for a while and Walt helped me tremendously. Will be coming back.

These guys have been the worst. I’d report them to BBB but they aren’t even accredited. Took it in for an underboost code, they told me it was something to do with my valve covers and then while working on it, told me they also have to replace the drive belt because coolant had been leaking from the thermostat onto the belt which was causing it to deteriorate (which have had a couple other shops since tell me that isn’t possible with my engine’s set up) so they also charged me for a new thermostat. When I picked it up, I had to ask a few times for someone to go over what was done because the guy ringing me up wouldn’t take off his sunglasses or offer any information either.
The very next morning, on my way to work up spooner summit from Carson to south lake, I overheated on the side of a mountain highway. Turns out, the thermostat was not replaced at all and appears they just cleaned the hose connections and then managed to break the plastic at both hose connections.
Luckily my coworker has a degree for mechanics and was able to buy a new one at Napa and replace it on the side of the road.
First the manager, Walt, promised me a refund for that $400. Now, about 4 months later, I still haven’t received anything, not to mention the original issue I brought it in for was never resolved, my check engine light has never turned off and I had to spend another $1000 at another shop to fix what they screwed up.
