I didn’t know that if the Intoxalock device gets cold that it won’t start so I called today and they had me unplugged the device for 30 seconds. I hope I don’t get in trouble, but the attendant was very knowledgeable and courteous. I am very grateful for her help.
I spoke to one attendant and they said last Friday that I don’t have to get a hold of the DMV and that Intoxalock will let the DMV know that I have the device installed in my car so they will give me the Y restriction license. Please have somebody get a hold of me and confirm that this is true thank you.

This is the dumbest device ever. Does not work. Cheaply made. Made to make life difficult. Malfunctions. Causes more stress and honestly causes accidents with the hassle of breathing while driving and getting locked out. Drains the battery. Can’t go out of town because you have to turn the car on. Worst device I’ve ever experienced.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.

What happens if I fail a breath test on my ignition interlock device?
If you fail a breath test, your vehicle will not start, and the device will log the event. Depending on your state’s regulations, multiple failed tests may trigger additional penalties, such as lockouts or reporting to your monitoring authority. Intoxalock devices allow you to retest after a short wait if alcohol is no longer detected. Always follow your state’s guidelines to remain compliant.
Can I install an ignition interlock device in a vehicle I don’t own?
