- BMBob MacauleyJun 7, 20251.0I purchased a car quest alternator in September of 2024 and a backup one just in case it fails because I take long drives and the last one failed 200 miles from my house. It stopped generating voltage a half year later and I swapped it out with the spare. The spare lasted a few months. Both were replace with new ones because the warranty covers it. The first replacement lasted 1 week before the battery light came on. I tested the output at 15.76 volts. (An overcharge condition) . At this point, I am working 12-14hrs/day and did not have a chance to replace the alternator again. Well, the batteries expanded (they are ruined now) and the connector on the top of the alternator which leads to the positive battery terminal loosened and melted the terminal. I ordered a Bochse upgrade which would not be in until the end of the day. So, I swapped it with the spare alternator. There was no output from this one. My wife had to take off from work to drive me to Napa to get an alternator that works. I swapped it out and there were no issues. I brought both alternator to Advanced Auto for replacement. I paid an extra 75 to upgrade the one Carquest alternator to a Bosche and tried to get my money back for the one that failed right out of the box and he would not do it. He said he used the warranty already for the first one... I ask, how about a store credit? He said no. I asked how about I pay an extra 75 for another Bosche. He said no. I couldn't believe it. He said, "Sorry, I cannot help you". So, I said I am out over $200 and all the time i spent on the side of the road replacing these things along with the two bad batteries i have to replace due to the overcharging, there is nothing you can do for me? He told me he can't help me and to have a nice day. I am not one for writing reviews, but I had to let people know about this one. Shop elsewhere. Update.... A few days after I wrote the initial review, I spoke to the district manager and was able to get a store credit for one of the alternators. Thanks, Becky!
