Day 5 Update – Payless Car Sales (New Jersey)
(Posting on behalf of my friend, Franklin Williams)
This is now day 5 of my friend Franklin attempting to resolve an issue with a Tesla purchased from Payless Car Sales.
Franklin has tried to be patient and cooperative, giving the dealership multiple opportunities to correct a problem that should never have occurred. He was told by management, including G, that the issue would be resolved and that he would receive a call by Friday or Saturday. As of 3:00 PM, no call was made.
When Franklin contacted the dealership and asked to speak directly with the finance manager, the same pattern continued — being told they were “too busy” and having staff sent out instead of addressing the issue head-on.
To be clear, a vehicle was sold that cannot be fully operated due to an unresolved title/financing issue, which Tesla has confirmed must be resolved by the dealership. Because the vehicle remains tied to the prior owner’s Tesla account, Franklin cannot access normal charging features.
On the second day of ownership, my friend Franklin was left stranded because the vehicle could not be charged. The car did not come with charging equipment, and Supercharging access was unavailable due to the ownership issue.
Franklin has repeatedly asked for documentation or written proof showing that Payless Car Sales is actively working with Tesla and the prior owner to resolve this issue. To date, no proof or documentation has been provided. All communication has been verbal, with no evidence that meaningful progress is being made.
At this point, it appears the dealership’s focus is on continuing to sell vehicles rather than resolving a serious issue affecting a customer who has already paid in full. This has caused ongoing inconvenience and loss of trust.
Franklin no longer wants the vehicle. If someone pays for a car, they should be able to own it, register it properly, and use it without restriction. That has not been possible here.
If this matter is not resolved immediately, escalation to higher authorities is being considered. This experience ensures this will be the first and last time my friend Franklin Williams deals with Payless Car Sales in New Jersey.
No customer should have to fight this hard just to take ownership of a vehicle they already paid for.

Day 7 Update – Payless Car Sales (New Jersey)
Final update after going in and speaking with management face-to-face.
After sitting down with management, I was able to better understand their perspective and the challenges that can come with selling a used Tesla—especially when it involves banks, prior owners, and transferring ownership properly. Once we talked things through in person, a lot of the earlier tension and miscommunication became clearer on both sides.
Some of my previous reviews were taken as having ill intent, which was not my intention. When the comment was made that they “don’t like selling cars to people like me,” it was clarified that it was not meant personally. We both acknowledged that emotions were high due to the situation, and I was ultimately caught in the middle of a complicated transaction that didn’t go as planned.
Sal and I were able to have an open and respectful conversation. In the end, Sal made the decision to unwind the deal and issued me a check. I appreciate that the dealership took responsibility on the back end and ensured I was taken care of.
While the situation itself was frustrating, I do appreciate Payless Car Sales—and Sal in particular—for addressing the issue directly and bringing it to a fair resolution. I left satisfied with how everything was ultimately handled.

Nice people, but my experience there was not good. First day we went to check out a vehicle, we did test drive it, but when we returned to the office and we were waiting 10 minutes. I'm wondering where our agent was. To find out that the boss decided to have an emergency meeting because somebody was in trouble and left all the customers sitting in the showroom for 20 minutes with no explanation as to what was going on. So we came back the next day, inquiring into the same car. The car listed for approximately $8700. Now you expect tax and some other fees that is going to increase the price. By the time they got done the price was approximately $17,500. Talk about a major SCAM operation, they are taking advantage of the people with very bad credit, that'd have no other choice. By the time we left, they said well we can try to keep it under $12,000. What a racket!!

Está jente nunca me llamaron para darme el título se venció la placa temporal me dieron el título mal.e cojido mucha lucha pork motor vehículo necesita que ellos notarifiquen una carta diciendo que ellos aquí cometieron un error y e venido tres días y hoi cuatros no puedo mover mi vehículo pork ellos no an podido notarificar una carta que motor vehículo quiere entonces no puedo manejar haya que ellos le de la gana de resolver y yo pagué bastante dinero y cash. Estoi bn molesta y creo que si no resuelven hoi llamaré la policía a ver que pueden hacer no e visto nunca un dealer así. Así que mi jente tengan cuidado al comprar su carro aquí pork después que se te vence la placa temporal es un problema para poder ayúdate con lo que sigue. Para darte tu título para resolver .nonlo recomiendo para nada. 👎

I recently visited Drive More at Pay Less in search of a hybrid car and had a less-than-ideal experience. Initially, I communicated with Serenity, who was helpful and agreed on a fair price and encouraged me to come in. However, despite driving two hours, I faced a long wait time of 45 minutes before even speaking to anyone. Once Serenity finally arrived, she mentioned that the documentation from my previous visit was lost, and we had to start from scratch. This led to even more delays.
When we asked for the final out-the-door numbers, Serenity couldn’t provide any clarity and seemed frustrated. We were told the manager would assist, but the manager never came over. This lack of communication and professionalism was extremely disappointing. It felt like my time and concerns were not valued at all.
In summary, this experience was frustrating and unprofessional. I drove a significant distance paid toll and spent hours with no resolution. I hope the dealership can improve their communication and customer service in the future. This was very unprofessional!
