Do not rent from Sixt. We recently rented a car and there was a minor scratch on the rim of the tire that was <2in. When we picked the car up in PHL we didn’t notice it as I typically just look for body damage. Some automatic scanner registered it on return to EWR and honestly I still have a hard time seeing the issue. The car was never street parked. They’re charging $825 for the “damages” which is more than what I paid to rent the car and are providing a weeks notice. Of that $225 is for “admin fees” which is absurd. No way would I ever trust this place again.

I just received another letter stating I need to pay $1000 for the above damages. This vehicle had 23k miles on it and the scratches were from before I received it. After submitting a report that I did not cause this damage, I was completely ignored. Sixt is scamming customers and trying to make money off false reports.

Sixt Rent a Car Newark operates like predators. After creating a three day rental agreement I was told that I agreed to one day rental agreement; in which I was charged a $20 a flexi-late return fee (it gets better). The first vehicle I rented with them a Toyota HIGHLANDER had a faulty seatbelt in which my 5yrs niece had to endure an hour car ride from Long Island to New Jersey of her mother holding the seatbelt around her (very unprofessional). Lastly, upon returning my second vehicle because I had to exchange the Highlander I was hit with multiple hidden fees. After thoroughly investing my invoice, I was charged a gas fee even though the tank was filled up; additionally charged a flexi-late fee that this company doesn’t want to refund me for. The morale of this story is be aware of this scam of a rental car company.

Zrobiłem rezerwację przez stronę sixt na BMW X5 w dniach 24.12-27.12. Podczas rezerwacji na sixt otrzymałem informację, że będzie pobrana kaucja $200. Była też adnotacja, że jeżeli jest płatność kartą kredytową, to jest to blokada na karcie, a jeżeli karta debetowa, to jest to pobranie środków z karty i zwrot po oddaniu auta. Z tego powodu nie wyrabiałem karty kredytowej licząc, że zgodnie z tym co napisali na aplikacji będzie zgodne z prawdą. Po przybyciu na lotnisko i podejściu do sixt, okazało się, że nie możemy użyć debetowej karty- możemy jej użyć tylko jeśli zapłacimy za cały nasz pobyt w USA (czyli zamiast 24-27.11, proponowano nam 24.11-4.12) - oczywiście za dużo większą opłatą. Potem okazało się to nieprawdą i naciąganiem nas przez pracowników sixt. Pojawił się też manager który potwierdził to kłamstwo. Wyciągali nawet stosy papierów i regulaminów aby potwierdzić swoją tezę. Na nic zdały się moje tłumaczenia, że co mnie interesują ich regulaminy, skoro mam wprost napisane w aplikacji warunki mojej rezerwacji. Po odejściu od okienka przypomniałem sobie że mam kartę kredytową z małym limitem - starczy na 1 dzień krócej ale nie zostaniemy na lodzie - więc podeszliśmy do okienka (innego) i poprosiliśmy o to samo auto, ale na 2 dni, a nie 3. Powiedzieliśmy ze mamy kartę kredytową. Podczas płatności mieliśmy problemy z pinem karty - nie pamiętaliśmy go i nie zdążył się zaktualizować przez aplikację. Zdesperowany w podbramkowej sytuacji, zapłaciłem kartą DEBETOWĄ, którą pracownik wcześniej zabronił mi płacić. Po płatności jak gdyby nigdy nic wydano mi dokumenty i kluczyki do auta. Nie polecam - to był na pierwszy pobyt w USA i było przy tym sporo strachu... Do tego pracownicy naciągają nieświadomych turystów.

I’ve generally had excellent experiences renting with Sixt - from the quality of the vehicles to the outstanding staff, especially at the Jersey City branch. I rent from that location most often, and the team there consistently goes above and beyond to accommodate customers. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Unfortunately, my most recent experience at Newark Airport fell short. My reservation was not honored due to a policy stating that “reservations made within 24 hours are not guaranteed”. This condition was not clearly highlighted during the booking process, and I was unaware of it at the time of reservation.
Despite holding Platinum status, no complimentary upgrade was offered. The interaction with the agent felt dismissive, with a response along the lines of: “Irrespective of your status, we can’t do anything - but I can offer you a good deal on the X7,” even though I had originally reserved a Yukon or similar vehicle. I needed a 7 passenger full-size SUV to comfortably accommodate people and luggage over a long journey.
To add context, I had initially made this reservation a week in advance. When I noticed the same vehicle category listed at a lower price the night before, I canceled and rebooked to take advantage of the better rate - something I would not have done had I known about the 24-hour policy.
Overall, Sixt offers high-quality vehicles and generally solid customer service, so I hope this was just a one-off experience. Greater transparency around booking policies and more proactive customer handling - especially or loyal customers - would go a long way.
