Frequently Asked Questions About PJM Auto Detailing
What is car detailing?
Car detailing involves a thorough cleaning and reconditioning of a vehicle's interior and exterior. Unlike a regular car wash, detailing goes deeper, using specialized products and techniques to restore the vehicle to a like-new condition.
What's the difference between a car wash and car detailing?
A car wash is typically a quicker process in which the vehicle's exterior is washed to remove dirt and grime. Car detailing, on the other hand, involves a more detailed cleaning of both the interior and exterior. It involves tasks like polishing, waxing, upholstery cleaning, and engine bay detailing to give the car a more refined, spotless finish.
How long does it take to detail a car
The time it takes for a car detailing service can vary based on the detailing package chosen and the vehicle's condition. A basic interior and exterior detail may take about 2-3 hours, while a more thorough, extensive detail (including engine cleaning, paint correction, etc.) can take 6 hours or more.
How often should I detail my car?
The frequency of car detailing depends on various factors, such as how often you drive, weather conditions, and how well you maintain the vehicle. On average, a car should be detailed every 4-6 months. However, if you drive in harsh conditions (snow, rain, dirt roads), you may need it more frequently.
How much does detailing cost?
The cost can vary depending on the service level, size of the vehicle, and additional treatments. Our basic packages typically include exterior washing, waxing, and interior vacuuming, while our higher-end packages might include paint correction, leather conditioning, and more. Call today for your free estimate, or fill out our request form on this page.
What's the difference between waxing and ceramic Coating?
Waxing adds a protective layer to your vehicle's paint, improving shine and offering basic protection against contaminants. It typically lasts for a few weeks to a couple of months.
Ceramic Coating provides a long-lasting, durable layer of protection that repels water, dirt, and contaminants. It lasts much longer than wax (usually 1-3 years), making it a more advanced form of protection.
What kinds of detailing services are included?
Each vehicle is different, but in general, we will:
• Vacuum the carpets, floor mats, upholstery, and trunk/cargo area
• Shampoo the carpets, floor mats, and upholstery
• Clean the windows
• Clean all hard surfaces, including vinyl and plastic
• Deodorize all interior fabrics
• Clean the door jambs
• Wash the vehicle's exterior
• Clean the wheels, wheel wells, rims, tires, chrome trim, and bumpers
• Polish, wax, and/or sealing the paint
• Ceramic Coating is an optional additional service
Can scratches be removed from my paint job without my vehicle having to be repainted?
Yes, detailing can reduce the appearance of light scratches and swirl marks through a process called paint correction. This involves polishing the paint to remove imperfections.

How long does ceramic coating take?
Ceramic Coating needs about 24 hours to cure so it takes longer than a typical detailing.
How long does ceramic coating last?
We offer two different ceramic coatings: one that lasts for either 3 years, and one that lasts five years. Give us a call and we’ll be happy to discuss which is the best choice for your vehicle.
What does ceramic coating protect against?
Ceramic coating not only looks fantastic on your vehicle, but it also offers excellent protection. It protects against:
• Environmental hazards: Protects against UV rays, water spots, bird droppings, tree sap, and hail
• Chemical stains: Protects against chemical stains and damaging environmental chemicals
• Scratches: Provides a degree of scratch protection
• Corrosion and oxidation: Protects against corrosion and oxidation
• Weathering: Protects against weathering
• Abrasion: Protects against abrasion
• Rust: Protects against rust
• Road grime: Protects against road grime
• Dust: Protects against dust
• Oil: Protects against oil
Does my vehicle need to be prepped before ceramic coating?
Prep before ceramic coating is very important, but we’ll take care of all that for you! The vehicle must be washed, clay barred, polished, and paint corrected before applying the ceramic coating. Your car will look like a whole new vehicle when we’re done!
How do I maintain a ceramic coating? Are there any products I can use?
The best way to maintain your coating is to hand wash your vehicle. After 6 months you can coat it with a ceramic coating spray. We’re happy to recommend the best spray-coating product to help maintain your vehicle.
