I’ve always seen this place as reliable, but since today’s events I will never return. I reserved a car days in advance and went to pick it up at 8AM. I waited an hour and a half just to be told they were still “cleaning” my reserved car. However, other people came in after me and were able to leave with their rented cars—personally, I felt discriminated against. What is the point of a reservation if it won’t be ready for the customer? I had commitments and was running low on time, so I decided this place wasn’t worth it and left without a car. Absolute terrible service. Will never be returning.

I have traveled for work for quite a while. I have rented more cars than I could possibly fathom. I almost always go with National Rentals. I understand that Enterprise and National are affiliated, and my company has chosen Enterprise as their preferred rental service. For this last business trip, I opted to drive instead of fly. I showed up to the rental facility in Berlin NJ. The first person I worked with was a tall gentleman. I think his name was Anthony. He was pleasant and pretty thorough. No complaints there! (thanks sir, much appreciated). From there, all down hill. I had an appointment, and from when I walked in to when I was driving the car off the rental lot, it was about an hour long process. Not something I am used to since with National you can just grab-n-go. But that is fine, not a big deal. I returned home to pick up my items from my house to leave for the trip. When I went back out to the car to leave for the business trip, the car showed "Safety system malfunction" and the car would not start. I powered the vehicle down, tried to start it, and it showed the same error and wouldnt start. I ended up reading a good portion of the vehicle manual I downloaded. Was not really helpful. Went back in the house, waited an hour. Same issue. I called Enterprise, and asked them to bring another car. "We are not interested in doing that. you have the option to call this number, and get the vehicle towed back to the lot. Then you will need to find a ride home, and come back to the rental facility tomorrow morning since it is 6pm and the facility is now closed." I had to leave for the business trip with a full day of customer meetings the following morning. Then they proceeded to give me a number for their Enterprise support. The number was Triple A, and they kept telling me the battery was dead on the phone. It was clearly not a battery issue. So I quickly got off the phone. I went inside my house for about another half hour. Defeated, I went back outside and tried again, and the car finally started. Since Enterprise was not willing to really help and I had to leave for my job and obligations, I left for the business trip not knowing if the vehicle was reliable or not. During the six hour drive, I realized that the car had a really off-putting stagnant mint smell coming out of the air vents. Pretty nauseating, whatever they sprayed it with while detailing the vehicle. On the six hour drive home following the business trip, it started to rain. So I tried the wipers. The wipers were absolutely shot, making it incredibly hard to see out of the windshield. Because they were fogged up as well, I had to use the defoggers which also blasted the cabin with that really bad old mint smell. The six hour drive home was made very difficult since the wipers were shot. So I made it back to NJ and returned the vehicle. I would probably not be leaving this review if it werent for the interaction I had with the workers who returned the vehicle. As they were going around to do the inspection, they asked me about my experience. I mentioned that it was rough, and mentioned the overall experience I had. One of the gentlemen chuckled and said "Right on. I hear ya. Sign here, and you can be on your way". So I signed and left, defeated. Will most likely not be renting from Enterprise again, as the overall experience was not something I was really a fan of.
