BLUF (Shorter Version): The staff at this Rochester location simply go above and beyond whenever they reasonably can. This is especially helpful because they genuinely know their stuff. Greg, Tatiana, Bob, Andy, and Ken were outstanding. Greg is the manager, and he’s sincerely a great leade. You can tell he runs the place for a reason, and no, he didn’t pay or ask me to say that haha! The rest of the staff seem happy to work there and care about helping him make the place great. Andy and Tatiana are on track for that level of leadership. I hope Advance Auto Parts at the corporate level rewards this staff by giving them the upward mobility they deserve. Because of them, you now have a loyal commercial-level customer. Long Version: I initially came to this location for a small online order during a promotion, but I kept coming back after an issue with my order arose (again, not the staff’s fault). Bob called me to explain the issue, why it happened, and the options available to fix it. He had a sincere interest in helping me get what I needed. I find that level of care is uncommon, especially for small orders. What truly impressed me happened a few days later. I came in to buy plow lights, and my plow truck refused to start in the middle of a snowstorm. I assumed it was the battery, skipped testing it, and rolled the dice on buying a new one. I was wrong, and I still couldn’t get the truck to start. Instead of saying “too bad, sorry,” the staff supported me through the entire troubleshooting process as the store’s traffic allowed. Bob showed me the tools I could use, and Andy, Ken, and Tatiana checked on me regularly while I worked—partly to see if I needed anything and likely also to make sure I wasn’t getting hypothermia. When I got soaked lying on the ground to remove the starter (which they tested for me), Tatiana gave me a dry coat, and Ken found cardboard to keep me off the wet ground. Who does this anymore? When I ran out of ideas, they arranged for me to leave the truck overnight. No attitude, no hassle. Just a fair request to have a plan for the next day, since they needed to clear snow and my truck was blocking a couple of spots (they didn’t say that, but it was obvious). So I returned the next day with a plan and a list of things to try. The staff again helped me brainstorm when ideas failed. Tatiana even stepped outside after her shift to lend a hand. When I was about to give up and call a tow, Greg suggested replacing a very specific grounding wire. I did and lo and behold, the truck immediately started. I couldn’t believe it. I think Bob suggested this the prior day but I was too stubborn/ignorant to listen. Sorry, Bob! As customers of businesses like this, I think it’s important to remember that the staff should not be expected to be mechanics. Their job is to know their inventory and help you find the right parts. If you feel entitled to more service than that, you’re out of line and they will likely let you know. But this team has real experience and a genuine willingness to help when they can, within reason, if you’re respectful. Because of Greg and his staff, this store has absolutely earned my loyalty. I will no longer hop from store to store. Even in the rare case that I can get a part a few bucks cheaper elsewhere, the service I get here is worth paying a little more. Luckily, that’s usually not even the case. I look forward to coming back whenever I need parts. Thanks, team!
