- CTCraig TellesFeb 1, 20265.0Bob at advanced auto really helped me with my 2005 astro van. He was nice enough to come outside when it’s zero degrees out mind you; and help me pop my hood on my van. It has the typical Chevy hood problem where you pull the release and get nothing. You need someone out in front tapping on it to get it to pop all while pulling the release inside the van. It took a couple mins and he was friendly and so helpful. I even offered to tip him and he didn’t take it. He’s really a great guy and employee I’ll continue to shop at advanced and it’s all thanks to bob.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle.
