Updated after original posting: See bottom for new comments: Not a total disaster of a company to get an Ignition Interlock Device from, but beware of a few things. My initial call to get the device was answered promptly, and during the call, the rep, Mauricio, told me I could pay monthly or every two weeks, but he had to set me up with the two week payment and then I could call and change it to monthly. NOT TRUE - once the payment frequency is set it cannot be changed. Basically it costs you an extra few weeks if you pay weekly vs monthly, which can be an extra $100 or more over the course of the contract. Once a client, the system knows who you are based on your phone number, and the wait times become riduculous for support, 45 minutes or more. HINT: Select Lease on the menu regardless of why you're calling and someone will answer much quicker! Also, my device went into "SYNC" mode while I was driving and my horn started beeping continously for 5 minutes. I finally piulled into a parking lot and shut the car off,. It stopped and I called Intoxalock. I was told that my car had an electrical issue synching up with the device, and I was told to disconnect the negative terminal on the car battery. Well, mid-December in the Northeast and dark, and no tools, and no idea where they hide the battery on a 1 year old car, I was at a loss. So I disconnected the device in the vehicle as that also would power it down, waited a couple minutes, re-connected it, and was able to use it like normal. I called back to let them know there was an easier solution, and they told me disconnecting the device was the next thing they would have told me to do if disconnecting the battery didn't work. I told them either process accomplished the same thing so why not tell clients the easier way first. I was told that was their procedure and when I mentioned they should consider changing it, it fell on deaf ears and I was wished a nice day. When it came time for removal, the hold times and service got much worse. On my initial call I selected Removal from the menu which resulted in a 45 minute hold. I initiated a Chat with them and they gave me another number and specific menu items to select. I was told NOT to select Removal, but Troubleshooting instead. My call was answered after 5 minutes, but was then I was transferred and on hold again for 40 mins. A rep finally got on the line, then put me on hold to call the service center to make the appointment. I was disconnected after holding for 15 mins. I guess they just don't want me or my money to leave them. Overall, the device worked fine - all the things you hear or are told about not eating, smoking, drinking anything but water (and of course alcohol) for 15 minutes prior to blowing into the device are pure BS. I'm a smoker and actually blew smoke into it and it would not fail the test. Mouthwash with alcohol will make it fail if you don't wait the 15. Hope you never need one, but if you do, heed my advice with these folks. Updated comments: A couple hours after posting my initial review above, I received a call from Isaias, a supervisor in Customer Advocacy department at Intoxalock. He saw my review and wanted to discuss the issues I encountered. We spoke for over 30 minutes and he listened to the issues I had with the various support groups. We also discussed incorrect statements they had on the website and the FAQ they sent me in reference to the Device Removal process,. He committed to correcting those statements as well as speaking to service about some conflicting information and negative attitude I received from different reps. He personally contacted the service center to authorize the removal of my device, and as an awesome gesture for the grief I went thru, he waived the final processings fees of abvout $60 that are due when the device is removed and the account is closed. If this review was only about Isaias, it would absolutely be 5 stars, but in good conscience I can only go to a 4 as there are some serious issues with the support model.

Thanks Car Audio for making my experience great, no one wants to have a interlock device installed in their vehicle but they made it easier for me & I have no complaints

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle.
