I just had it installed and had a great experience with the installers at Mr. Tint but the experience with intoxalock has gone downhill fast. My representative was very helpful and seemed very honest. I told her I was comparing prices and looking at reviews of all rhe companies. U told her exactly what others were charging and she explained their fees and even emailed me what she told me. I went with them because with most things seeming equal, I was assured they didnt have any of the one time start up fees and they were giving me a 100 dollar rebate at install to cover most of my first month. As the device was almost finished being installed I get an email from intoxalock with their contract. There was a one time fee included which I was assured there wasn't as well as other fees I was told there was none if. Once your device is being installed you can no longer call your sales rep or talk to them at all. The call goes to the call center where they barely speak English. I explained the situation for 10 minutes and the guy told me there was nothing he could do. Finally he transferred me to a supervisor but I waited on hold for 25 minutes before hanging up. I was able to call other numbers until I got someone who said they were going to escalate it to sakes and ill here something in 24 to 48 hours. Problem is im not signing the contract with fees i was told I wouldnt have and without the 100 rebate. I have all the fees and prices in writing as well as tge rebate being put towards my account at time of install. Now they are saying I have to fill out a rebate form before I can get it. If you dont sign the contract they wont fix lockout or any issues so if my new machine malfunctions before they get back to me im pretty much screwed. I already regret my choice. My main issue is with what seems like a bait and switch. Very nice at first then once they have you good luck.

The install process is super easy to go through and mr.tintz explains everything for you. The problem is the device itself is set up to make you fail. First off you have to blow entirely too hard and if you’ve had anything regardless the amount that detects alcohol in it, it will fail you and you’ll have to pay to unlock the device.

I have not had a single good experience with this company or its product. All the wires, camera, gps module installed on the windshield, and the handheld device is all a theft magnet and my vehicle was broken into and the device was stolen right after I had it installed. I was stuck paying for a new device, and that is not cheap. After a new one was installed, I had many problems with it and was stranded, having to pay out of pocket to get my vehicle towed to the service center multiple times, as intoxalock only pays $100 toward a tow and only allows themselves to pick the tow company which one of the quotes was over $200 for the tow. I have had my vehicle locked out from the dealership working on my vehicle and was not helped in any way and was stuck with paying a lockout charge. I was not notified of this lock out until it was time for my monthly payment. I have had the device kill my car battery and miss work multiple times causing me to lose out on money, with the most recent time also locking my vehicle out, which of course I had to pay a lockout charge. The reason I was told was because I turned the ignition on them back off upon startup, which was because of my car battery not being fully charged. I was not helped in any way in this situation and was told regardless of it being their fault, I am stuck with the lockout charge and will also have to take my vehicle to the service center again for maintenance. I am a working father providing for myself, my 2 kids, and their mom all on my own as I’m the only one working, and I can not pay hundreds in lockout charges in which we’re not my fault to begin with. Each representative I spoke with understood where I was coming from and said they were sorry for the equipment causing my dead battery and lockouts but they will not waive the fee. When asked to speak with a supervisor I was told multiple times by multiple representatives that there is no supervisor and to hang up and call back to speak to a different representative. I am convinced any positive reviews are plants, because there is not a single positive moment I’ve had while dealing with this company. It’s been an absolute money grab and a nightmare since the beginning and I would not recommend this company to anyone in the world. I would like an actual supervisor to contact me and work with me on these problems, or I am highly considering getting this system removed and going with a different company, which of course, I will have to pay to get it removed and for ending the lease early. I cannot stress how terrible my experience has been.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
