Horrible customer service. Rude, unprofessional, and unhelpful! I’ve called, messaged, and used the live chat on the app multiple times, and either my questions or concerns go unanswered or they’re ignored entirely.
Heads up on scheduled maintenance: you WILL be charged if your mechanic messes anything up while your vehicle is in their possession. Even if you follow the correct steps by scheduling your maintenance ahead of time and getting them to refund or credit your account, if successful, it will be a fight. Then you’re also obviously out for the recalibration fee. I’m nearly done with my service and have a handful of questions that are being ignored. Do yourself a favor: if it’s possible to use a different service, go with the different service.
UPDATED: After my initial review, I was contacted by a representative named Isiah. Isiah pleaded with me to change my 1-star rating, seemingly hoping that recent bias would outweigh two years of awful customer service. I told him I would consider it, depending on how seamless my final month and the device removal process went.
Needless to say, the service has remained as poor as I’ve come to expect. I’ve tried contacting both Isiah and Intoxalock every business day over the past week to schedule my device removal, but I’ve been either ignored or placed on hold for hours at a time. Additionally, I’ve submitted multiple requests to remove my device through their website and app, all without any response.
To reiterate my original post: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock
How does an interlock device work?
An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.
What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?
The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
How do I use my interlock device?
Using an IID is simple. To start your vehicle, blow into the device as directed. If the device detects no alcohol, your car will start. You may be prompted for "rolling retests" while driving, where you’ll blow into the device again to confirm compliance. How-to videos are also available on the Intoxalock mobile app.
