Look, a warning for people who are not car savvy, Do NOT go ANYWHERE where they tell you "I couldn't possibly quote a price for that" if its for something like a wheel bearing or some other regular fix.
I called yesterday, and knowing the above information, hesitated when the guy told me he couldn't POSSIBLY tell me how much it would be to replace a bearing, but the location was just too convenient, and they could look at my car same day (He also assured me he could replace the bearing the same day, which, alluring ok since it was 1:30 and they close at 6) I took my car in and dropped off the keys, and sat waiting for a ride back to work, while sitting there, I should have also known not to keep my car there because the mechanic came in and said
"Yea weird stuff, I put the fluid in the thing, and then it was all over the ground, so then I put the fluid in the car, and it all stayed in that time, so I took it for a test drive, the fluid expanded and it was overfull then, and then I let it sit, and the fluid all disappeared, weird, so yea Idk where it could have gone. Probably somewhere in the car"
I had to get back to work though, so I left the car, and waited. They called me an hour later and tell me they will have to charge me 775 dollars for a wheel bearing replacement on one wheel. They told me I would have to replace the caliper, the hub, the brake, the abs sensor, the abs arm. I was like I know not all of that is bad, because I know cars, no way, even at my insistence that that was too expensive and I couldn't afford that, he insisted. I told him No Way.
Got my car, got quotes for 4 other mechanics, ranging from 225 dollars to max 500.
I assume they depend on you bringing your car in, and once they quote you, you don't know anything about vehicles or costs, and 99% of the time, people will just say fix it. Do not go here.
