Whether you’re running the ICW or in search of home port, Safe Harbor South Harbour Village combines a wealth of dedicated services and amenities with the charm of southern hospitality. Take to the water and explore the many nearby untouched acres of beach, marsh and maritime forest preserves or enjoy boutique shopping along Southport’s charming tree-lined streets. As the sun sets, return home and dine with boating neighbors at one of our two waterfront restaurants.
We’ve stayed at several Safe Harbor marinas up and down the East Coast — Blue Water, Solomons Island, and Charleston, to name a few — and have always had excellent experiences. Unfortunately, Safe Harbor South Harbor Village was the complete opposite and left us absolutely shocked by the lack of professionalism and hospitality.
Several days before arriving, I called ahead to ask if they had a “pay to use the facilities” option for anchoring vessels — something other Safe Harbor locations handle courteously. The dockmaster was polite, helpful, and said it wouldn’t be a problem; we just needed to “take care of the dock hands” and could use the showers and laundry.
When we arrived, everything seemed fine. We gave a gratuity, received a fob, and went to use the facilities. Moments later, we were confronted by an angry man who claimed to be the general manager, demanding to know what we were doing and accusing us of trespassing. His tone was hostile and accusatory from the start — no attempt to understand, no professionalism. He even threatened to fire the dockmaster who had helped us and spoke condescendingly to my wife in front of other guests.
Completely disgusted, we returned the fob and left immediately. We called Morningstar Marina just down the ICW and were treated with warmth, respect, and genuine hospitality — everything this location lacked.
It’s a shame, because Safe Harbor’s brand has always represented consistency and courtesy. But until corporate addresses the toxic management at South Harbor Village, we’ll be taking our business — and our recommendation — elsewhere.

Easy in and out for the marina and the staff is polite and helpful. The current rips through here so take that into account when docking.
The highly touted Italian restaurant was horrible and pricey!
The cost of dockage for a couple of nights to wait out weather wasn't cheap but that's par for the course these days.

An outstanding place to stop when you are traveling on the ICW. Staff went above and beyond to help us out. Got fueled up pumped out, Super Walmart 10 minutes away for re-provisioning. The seafood restaurant which is a 30 second walk out of the gate has good food and a great beer selection.

Very nice marina couple of nice restaurants with easy walk. Dockhand staff is fantastic, helpful, proactive, and willing to answer any questions and give advise. Only negative is distance to Southport but even then the staff told us about the trolley that picked us up at the Marina and took us to town. Definitely a nice place to spend a few days.
