- JHJP HooniganFeb 16, 20261.0I went in today to have the code on my car cleared after replacing a part, but one of the employees told me he couldn’t do it because it was illegal. As far as I can tell, there’s no North Carolina law that says clearing a code is illegal. I come to Advance Auto all the time at different locations, and I’ve never had any issues with any other store clearing my code. I also buy parts from Advance Auto regularly, and I’ve never had a problem anywhere else except at this store.

Signs of a bad car battery can range from the need for frequent jump starts, slow to start, cranks or clicks but won't start, dash lights work but the vehicle won't start, etc.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
