- DMde marullo5 days ago5.0I usually go to a different auto parts store, but tried them instead. I sure got lucky. A kind guy helped me out checking my truck to see if my rear back light was out or not. He proceeded to have me assist with checking all lights!😁 Then he brought out my rear light bulb( one of my lights, there's 2) so I didn't need to go in store as my amputation was killing me that day. He was very informative about certain areas of my truck that I was concerned with, as I was sure[ 99.9%] I was ripped off by the mechanic (highly recommended)just a few weeks ago. I happen to know a few things😎about auto mechanics, worked on cars before they became computers with engines. Anyway, he did a code check and as I expected, the repair (I didn't need)was coding that it needed checking✅or replacement..jeez, not cool. Things can go wrong, I know, but I'm not an idiot, and I've had issues with other vehicles concerning a caliper. THERE WAS NO ISSUE..It may have not been done properly or AT ALL...but I'm planning to go back to the RipOff Mechanic to let him see whatz up.. It's very upsetting when they see a female come into a shop and they assume, we know zero about vehicles, so we can be an easy mark..nothing infuriates me more. I chose to Not tell my 6'3" 220lb son, with a very protective," protect momma" Sicilian tradition, as I'm capable of handling this myself. I'm no Mechanic Mary but as I stated, I do have knowledge of motorized transportation, because my grandfather insisted I learn about mechanical functions from age 11.. which took no persuasion on my part..I've loved cars since early on, and wanted to pursue a career in auto mechanics, but back then( 70s)it was unheard of and my HS refused my signing up for that elective. Times have changed and finally, the good ole boys club have "allowed" us females into their circle, reluctantly for many. So I'm prepared, with printout in hand to see this mechanic who assumed, just another dumb broad, NOT🚫😉😄😡

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
