- PSPaul Simon6 days ago2.0Several years ago I had my car repaired by Gerber while I was living in Havelock after it was hit parked. Fairly simple repairs of a small dent and scrapes. The repair job came out ok in my opinion, paint match was good, no overspray anywhere but I wasn’t extremely keen on the fact I could see they filled the dent in the fender with body filler but I have a tendency to nit pick so I let it go. Fast forward to this past year (6 years post repair) I notice that where the dent was repaired the body filler is beginning to fail. After calling Gerber in Havelock they stated I need to bring it to another Gerber collision for inspection and to file a claim. So I brought it to my local Gerber here in Texas who was more than willing to start the claim process for me. He noticed that body filler was failing right away and seemed confident that this would be a cut and dry claim. He explained the process of the original body shop would have to approve the repair, took pictures and sent everything over to the Havelock location. I get a call about a week later stating they denied the warranty repair claiming it’s rock chips. Sorry but I’ve had enough cars repaired in my lifetime to know the difference between rock chips and obvious cracks. My local Gerber apologized and told me it’s obvious that the body filler is failing but it’s out of there hands but offered to polish the area to try to prevent the cracks from getting any larger. The lifetime guarantee is more of a suggestion than an actual fact. The pictures don’t even begin to show the severity of the cracking as you can only see the large crack despite there being the whole area is riddled with them. So it will be a matter of time before my car will most likely have a nice rust bubble forming on my front fender.
