3 stars for the online course
0 stars for the road course
I would give the online class a 3-3.5 star rating. It did what it needed to do; nothing to write home about. My daughter had to have it to get her permit as she was under 18, so for a required course, it was fine. Long, but fine. She would have hated the classroom version, though, because it’s in a tiny room with no windows down a long hallway in an old office building. I’d lose my mind if I had to sit there for hours on end every day. Def recommend the online version.
The driving portion was a legit 0-star experience. We got a call on Friday afternoon that someone had canceled, so could my daughter do Sat & Sun from 7 AM - 11 AM? We went ahead and did it because she wanted to get it out of the way, but what a terrible time during the school year - these kids are already sleep deprived as it is.
That aside, the instructor showed up late and at the wrong address. I was standing in the driveway of our house with my daughter waiting for her to notice or even acknowledge us as she took her time getting the car set up, pulling things out of the trunk, arranging the seats, etc.
When she finally did seem to return to planet earth, she just gestured at my child to come to her. Excuse me. You are a stranger taking my child in a car under your supervision for 4 hours - come over and introduce yourself at the very least. My daughter is an introvert who has never even attempted to drive a car before, and she just waved at her like she was holding up the tardy and rude instructor.
When my daughter returned home, she told me about their outing. The first thing she had her do was drive a mile up the street to the Speedway where she left my child in a running vehicle to get a Big Gulp. Then she had her drive around and have her vague instructions and acted like she was frustrated that my daughter had never driven before, even though they told me over the phone that it was understood and anticipated that she was a first time driver. She dropped her off without telling her anything about what they’d be doing next. There was no information provided about what she planned to teach her or how the next day would go.
At least on Sunday, she showed up on time and at the correct house, though her setting up took a little while before they were ready to go. The first thing she had my daughter do this time was drive to McDonald’s where she again LEFT MY CHILD IN A RUNNING CAR and went in to get herself some breakfast that she proceeded to eat in the car while attempting to provide instruction. Towards the end of the time, she made her go out on 264 and said, “This is what it’s all been leading up to” like she had set any expectations to begin with. And she turned the radio onto a gospel station and cranked the volume. Was her goal to try to distract her while she was on an interstate for rhe first time ever?! Not to mention, she doesn’t know what religion we practice. It was entirely inappropriate.
She was also overly critical and harsh in her delivery of feedback to a FIRST TIME DRIVER. And she just wrote some things on a paper and told her that was it.
My daughter learned nothing useful so it was a complete waste of time and money. When I sent an email describing the situation in detail, I received an immediate reply from Casey saying she was so sorry and she’s “send along to the owners to see what they could do for me.” I never heard back.
I will say that there is a man that does the lessons after school that my daughter’s friends have had as an instructor, and apparently he is much more competent and helpful, so if you do use this driving school, ask for the guy. I’d tell you the name of the person to avoid, but she never introduced herself to me.
